webfact
Picture: Thai Rath The much awaited fate of a senior Thai policeman accused of killing a man in custody after plastic bags were wrapped around his head will be known today. Thai Rath reported yesterday that the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases in Bangkok will announce its judgment at 9.30 this morning (Wednesday). Former chief of the Nakhon Sawan police station in the north of Thailand Pol Col Thitisan Utthanaphon is charged with six other officers. They face the death penalty if convicted. The case follows the death in custody of Jirapong "Mawin" Thanaphat at the police station between 4th and 6th August 2021. He was in for a drugs offence and was being interrogated. A video at the time showed plastic bags being wrapped around the head of the suspect allegedly to elicit a confession. The police colonel became even more infamous after the case came to light as dozens of luxury cars were found to have been given to him after his success in drugs cases. This earned him the nickname of "Ferrari Joe" or Officer Joe in the Thai media. Popular Post Denim
Death penalty might be a possibility but I don't think a probability. This case was caught on camera and so he we are today. But what about the similar incidents committed by other cops not caught on camera. A death sentence might open a complicated can of worms. More likely a jail sentence which after a few years served will be commuted for good behavior. 3

2long
Has he been found guilty? Or is that today's verdict? Has he confessed yet, because if he has, then they won't execute him. If he hasn't confessed, then he will wriggle out of this... they all do.

Popular Post JeffersLos
A big show of force, either life, death penalty, or a massive amount of years. Showing how hard the system comes down on such behavior. Then slightly less reported is that they will appeal the sentence immediately and be released on bail on the same day. The appeal will go on for years and despite the heavy sentence they will never spend a night in jail. 11 1
Popular Post Pib
Since he took an online 2 week monk course after getting caught that should reduce the possible penalty from death to 6 months with a Bt500 fine. 1

Popular Post Will B Good
Death penalty my ****. There is more chance of the wife letting me go out for the night in Nana than this murderer facing any kind of serious punishment. 2
Popular Post aussienam
It "seems" murder and murder cover-ups by the BIB has been a national sport for many decades. $$$$$$ Money talks. Greed is rife. Cash and assets incentives for drug and property seizures needs to be stopped. Never, ever get involved with police here. Pay them the money they want from you and go. They can make up any arbitrary charge against you and ruin your life forever with years or decades in a third world prison or just kill you. If you are lucky you'll just be deported, albeit that also being able to severely impact someone's life. Corruption is so massively entrenched from top to bottom I really don't know how decent reform could happen. It would take decades of slow change and modernisation of every department. Ferrari Joe is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. He won't get the death penalty. A lengthy prison term more likely. These are my opinions based off what I have read and seen via media reports, documentaries, movie re-enactments of true stories, relayed accounts by others and personal experience (forced to pay my hard earned money to police). Others can disagree as it is just my opinion. 4

Eric Loh
Still a long long way to go to see punishment duly meted. He can appeal to the Court of Appeals to affirm the court decision. If Court of Appeals refused to accept the case, he can further appeal to Thai Dika Court which is the highest court of the land.

Popular Post CharlieH
That's the official verdict. What happens in reality, probably quite different but of course we will never know, but with the amount of assets and cash this guy had, I doubt he will be serving time in the true sense.
