Sanook Thai Captiom: Really cheap electric bill

A story published by news outlet Sanook had a real twist.

It was not about electric bills or utilities being expensive or price gouging.

One man went on Facebook to show his extraordinarily CHEAP electric bill.

The monthly fee was just 11.67 baht. Yes, eleven and 67 satang!

Reporters went to Muang district of Ranong where they found 39 year old Aphiwan living alone in a two story home on 5 rai of land.

He turned on all his electrical appliances to show they were all working - such as TV, fridge, fans and washing machine.

He said that when he got the bill he didn't notice how much it was. When he went to pay at the convenience store he was startled when the clerk said:

"That'll be 11.67 please na kha".

Following this he felt the only place he could go was Facebook saying this was probably the cheapest bill in Thailand.

His post was met with widespread confusion and more than a little gentle teasing.

One said "are you using candles?" while another suggested he must be using solar power while a third commented that his rice cooker must be broken.

Whatever, he advised the public to only use what electricity you need and perhaps you too could have a bill about 10 baht!

He had better kept his mouth shut..  Now he will soon get a new electricalmeter installed. Never make them wiser then they should be. This is called shooting yourselves in the foot.

So now that the electric company knows about it, they will soon be out to change the meter . Good job going on social media and letting a good thing be changed. Can't fix stupid

I think he payed too much the previous month and now they "compensate". Happened to me one time. One month bill almost bubble then usual, next month almost for free.

I would live to see a cheap bill, mine have been over 7k Thb since they lifted the reduction.  Of course using the dryer to dry the clothes and running the Aircons when we are home, as well as cooking all meals does keep the bill up.

I was living in an military apartment with my wife where she was based and we got a electric bill for 4 Baht. She couldn’t stop laughing about it because it had gone to ten different desks to get signed before being submitted to her office.
