Krabi: Deep ruts in the road could swallow up and injure foreign tourists on motorcycles

Locals in Muang district of Krabi went to Siam Rath for help because of the deplorable state of a popular road that leads to many tourist attractions and ports popular with foreign visitors.

At a T-junction called Nong Thua Raet they found three meter long ruts, 20-25 centimeters wide and 10 cm deep.

Local Krajang Sobutr fears out of town tourists could have serious accidents particularly on rented motorcycles.

Even the locals with low vehicles with heavy loads are in trouble.

Many times they have reported the trouble but someone just comes along with a bucket of asphalt and fills it it.

It doesn't last. The holes appear again and are even worse than before.

Krajang wants to see a more permanent solution to stop people coming off their bikes.

Apart from leading to tourism attractions and ports it is also a main route to the Ao Nang beach.

Pre-andemic that area was a kind of "mini-Scandinavia" notes ASEAN NOW.

The 201 up to Chaiyaphum is so bad in places you can see where the cars sumps is hitting the tarmac.

Totally irrelevant, but feel better for having pointed that out.

I didn't know that potholes can discriminate between tourist, locals and hired bikes.  Dammed clever!

The local Thais have an amulet to protect them from it.

There's a greater chance of getting injured from indigenous road users. Potholes are easier to avoid.

I've seen a bigger crack on a plumber.

If there is a hazard a person can be injured.  It doesn’t matter who the person is, or where they are from

Being a Thai or foreigner is irrelevant

Correct you are thinking logically in the real world, alas Thailand sometimes lives in the Twilight zone!

Perhaps a bit of hyperbole in the headline?

To swallow a tourist whole, 3m x 25 cm x 10 cm doesn't quite hack it, one feels. Throw in a bike as well and it's very indigestible.

I always scope out in the daytime anywhere I plan to go at night. Memorize the location of the potholes. It can save your life.

No sense of adventure.????
