snoop1130
The Royal Thai Air Force’s 2023 3.69-billion-baht budget for purchasing F-35 fighter jets has been approved by the 2023 Budget Committee on Wednesday, August 3rd. Local media reported this afternoon that the committee has approved the procurement of the fighter jets from the United States by 45 to 22 votes. However, the Air Force could only proceed with the purchase if they agree to the reduction of the budget from the proposed 738 million baht to 369 million baht. The Force will also be prohibited from conducting any budget changes. And if the US Congress did not approve the purchase, the Royal Thai Air Force must return the budget. Popular Post sqwakvfr
OMG. The most advanced fight currently available and Thailand has a need for it? Why? F-35 are an offensive weapon and not ideal for Air Defense. But TIT. Even though the per unit cost is now under $100 Million it’s operating costs are still staggering: Latest estimate is over $30,000 per hour to operate the F-35.

Popular Post bluebluewater
Gracious! These folks certainly have a hard-on for the F-35. Their only problem is that no sale from the US has been allowed and I don't think there is any talk of it either. I would be amazed if such a thing would happen any time soon. 3 1

Popular Post BonMot
This is actually pretty funny until you consider how poor, uneducated, indebted the average Thai is. But it's the way of the world. The West is flushing billions of dollars down a rat hole every minute. Strip mining the taxpayer. 4 1

Popular Post Stargeezr
You may know that the word estate means more money, well the same goes for stealth. The F35 is a stealth fighter, and it only has a single engine. The F16 if it can be purchased new is a much better fighter for a country like Thailand. If the military generals were being honest they would realize this fact as well. Not every one can afford the most expensive car, and most countries do not need the most expensive jet fighter. 4

Mr Meeseeks
They have already said they will not be purchasing the weapons systems, so how are they going to arm them? A white elephant, and Thailand is where that phrase came from, with little wonder as to why.

tomacht8
The Thai military's purchases don't make much sense, apart from the small quantities, general possible uses, maintenance/follow-up costs and the threat situation. An aircraft carrier without planes, Submarines without engines and now F35 aircraft without weapon systems. As in other countries, when taxpayers' money and not one's own money can be spent, all rational thinking is suspended. Isaan sailor
It all makes sense now. They need to pony up USD to purchase F-35s. That explains why the USD has lost nearly 3% in 30 days. And no, the USD didn’t lose 3% anywhere else. In Vietnam and PI, USD actually rose a bit in last 30 days…
