The RAC recommends you have one to save any grief, I think they mean "you never know" with the police here....????

I drove for 29 years to some 50 provinces in Thailand before I finally got myself a Thai driving license 2 years ago, never any problems with either the police or the insurance company. Never go to Pattaya so no idea how it is there. 

 

Be respectful and polite and people will be respectful and polite back. Don't worry so much
