Popular Post Berkshire
This is almost a trick question. Most of us would like to believe that we think for ourselves, do what we want, and not abide by all of society's silly rules. But reality isn't like that. If you live alone on a desert island, then you can do want you want anytime you want. Nobody cares. But if you want to be a part of society, then you will have to make an effort to "fit in." To what degree is of course up to you. If you want to walk around Pattaya in tattered clothes, not bathe for a week, and insult everyone you meet....up to you. Yes, you're being your own man, not a "sheep." Is that what the OP is talking about? To be honest, there is one group of people who are among the least sheepish. Homeless people. For obvious reasons. Do I want to be like them? No. So being a sheep isn't so bad, is it? 3

And what exactly is your point of contention? That a group of people shouldn't participate in a semi-serious, good natured discussion without meeting your solitary guidelines of approval..... Everybody is having a bit of fun, with friendly banter.... The fact that the only thing you have to add to the thread is to chime in hurling rocks to disparage the group = says a lot more about you than all of us.... 1 3

Mac Mickmanus
I may be a sheep or I may not be I may follow other people or I might not . I really haven't given it much thought , and I go through life without giving it any consideration . I will chink glasses when required and I wouldn't get a haircut which everyone else is getting , but if anyone else wants to, it wouldn't bother me
Popular Post BigStar
No, as my often-contrarian posts on the forum show, I’m a distinct individual in most ways. I take into account a wide range of opinions, ideas, and practices as I make up my own mind about things. I annoy posters by challenging the bigotry and cherished beliefs such as Chinese don't spend, only farang have money, TAT just tells porkies, fools buy real estate, Pattaya's dead, and shopping malls only launder money. I dare tell users they can ignore the demands of our IT experts and continue using Win 7 or an HDD if they really want to.???? For example, I get a close shave daily using a traditional double edge razor and kit. At home I exercise with a TRX suspension trainer knockoff, resistance bands, and treadmill. I also may exercise at a gym, but I’m always the only one lifting using lighter weights and one set per exercise of super slow reps. And I’ve stayed on a low carb diet for years, which has really paid off. A notable exception concerns Thais. Since I’m a foreigner living here in their country, a fact of which they’re quite aware and relatively sensitive in such a homogenous society, I make an effort to roll with flow and give them a good impression according to their own standards of politeness. That's partly self-serving to help make my own life easier, and it does: all my interactions with Thais nowadays are quite pleasant, even enjoyable for both parties. But I hope a favorable impression will carry over somewhat to farang in general and compensate for some of the idiocy they may encounter or hear about. But I hope a favorable impression will carry over somewhat to farang in general and compensate for some of the idiocy they may encounter or hear about. I use a super-expensive battery powered Gillette five-blader for shaving. anything else cuts my face to ribbons so I've not much choice. I grew a beard back when I was living in South-Western Sydney because I wanted to blend in with the tribe. I figured I'd have less chance of being randomly beheaded if I had a nice big beard. too bad it was a short salt and pepper beard and not a beautiful long black one like all the habibs ???? I'm retired in Thailand now and am trying to go with the flow because why fight random stuff every step of the way? they want me to wear a mask to go into a bank or a 7-Eleven, I wear a mask. they want to drive the wrong way, I look both ways before crossing the road. I see a Grab driver riding in the sidewalk I smile and move out the way. my Thai brother needs to put food on his table and you know that the customers will be annoyed if he's late because he followed the rules. who am I to deprive him of what little income he gets from that crazy job. so I guess I must be a sheep. baa baa. oh, and a slave to the corporate machine. but I'm (mostly) happy so I don't give a flying fork if anyone thinks less of me as a result ???? I've usually gone against the flow- didn't drink alcohol when it was the "culture" to drink lots, didn't drive a flash car, didn't spend large on fashionable clothes, did jobs I enjoyed ( some of the time ) even if they didn't pay well etc, but I suffered for it. Girls didn't want to go out with me, so missed out on all that "free lovin".

alien365
I don't really consider myself a sheep as I don't copy others. I buy more for practicality. I don't have an I phone, just a cheap Chinese one that does the job nicely. Once you put a case on a phone, no one see's what it is anymore anyway. My hair has been the same for the last 20 years and I still get compliments, I buy shirts that last me well and fit well, I use a straight razor because I get less irritation and it's more calming, I've got an eco car because I mostly drive in the city, I avoid big crowds, especially the selfie crowds as I prefer peacefulness. Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly a hermit, but I'm comfortable with who I am and choose to live life my way.
it is what it is
haha, i kind of agree, i don;t drink so on the odd occasion i'm in a bar i have a soft drink and this over clinking does get a bit monotonous and increasingly meaningless the more it's done. back home we'll maybe say 'cheers' when we first sit down with a drink but that's it. anyway OP, it's not something i'd get too worked up about, i have an approach that seems to work; everyone to their own, live and let live. 1
Hummin
We are all followers who have to walk in more or less same direction, shop in the same stores, consume the same news, the same food, more or less the same philosophies and the same laws! Even the most hardcore one percent motorbikers follow their own rules and dress codes like sheeps. There is no freedom outside the society, just more work and more risk of failure. However, I buy quality things based on my needs, not because some famous use the brand.

jvs
When i was young i already hated peer pressure,i did not smoke because i hated the smell . I always felt good when driving and i was the only one in my lane and every one else seemed to go the opposite direction. I go by the rules when i feel i have to,like wearing a mask when everyone else is. Always been a loner and now that i am getting old i realize more and more that my choice is ok.
