Daily News Thai Caption: Sold then abandoned!

More than 100 house owners protested at a housing estate in Pluat Daeng, Rayong about shoddy building work yesterday.

They held placards and marched along the main road in the estate demanding that the owner of the estate come out and face them.

It appeared no one did.

Walls have collapsed and houses have cracked and subsided. Only 4 have been repaired in the four year old estate and more than 100 want action for damage to their properties.

Later a representative of the furious owners called Chaiwat presented a list of demands to Saphaporn Samutnoi at the district chief's office.

The estate was not named in the Daily News story.

this is what happens when there are no building inspectors as well as qualified trades people, anyone can just throw up buildings without any inspections to ensure they are being done properly, that why so many building etc in Thailand have structural problems, chap material & unskilled labour, lack of preparation of the ground, no soil testing to see what foundations are needed, no packing of any built up ground, while some builders do the right thing many who build these estates just to make money dont care as long as they make a heap out of it then refuse to correct any problems caused by their shoddy work

Sounds to me like said owner might have followed Basil Fawlty's example by employing a cowboy builder in a vain attempt to save money????

Queen Elizabeth II has just Lain in State in a building that has lasted 1,000 years. These buildings have barely lasted 1,000 days.

Be fair, that's a hell of a trip for a Myanmar migrant worker to make, so they had to use local labour

Which is where they'll fall on deaf ears no doubt.

This is what happens when you employ an immigrant labourer on 350 baht per day...
And you expect a professional?

I think its unfair to blame the labourers, the land was not surveyed correctly in the first place, you can't blame them for the state of the ground being built on, that's not their remiss. aka ''build a house here''  ''ok boss.''

sadly i understand how they feel .we had problems from day 1 now 2 years in and things getting no better   cracking everywhere inside and out ...just to many things to put on here

we are on an estate of 20 houses all have problems but all afraid to say anything ..we have contacted the builders .. Don't want to  know .perhaps its because the owner of the company is the son of our Village Leader ..Boss..untouchable..i just fear whats going to happen in the next few years

looks like my sons inheritance might just be a pile of rubble
