CHIANG MAI, Oct 3 (TNA) – The Ping River exceeded its critical level and the governor of the northern province ordered local officials to be prepared to help flood victims.

The Ping River was 4.00-4.10 meters deep and overflowed to some central parts of Chiang Mai this morning. The levels exceeded its safe threshold by nearly 60 centimeters.

Vast areas in the heart of the province by the river were inundated including the Pa Phrao Nok community and Charoen Prathet Road. Some locations were more than one meter under water and floodwater was rising.

Anybody know if any roads closed due to flooding?  Have to get the daughter to the airport from Raumchok Plaza taking the 2nd ring road to the road to the airport at Promenada intersection.  Thanks in advance!

Anyone know where to look up the amount of rainfall in given area in Thailand. In Chiang Rai we seemed to have had an exceptionally wet year.

If you want to see the amount for different areas of Chiang Rai, this is a good website:

Quite a bit of variation even from areas a few kms from each other. Probably because of the many mountains and big hills.

I Don’t think you will get any problem way to Promenada, But, what about driving  oposite direction (to the Est) way to Nimman, then Airport ?

Limited view but Today, just avoid roads next to the Mae Ping. I did read that one road near the airport had drainage issues.

This makeshift flood wall is all that stands between us and serious flooding in the Wat Muang Guy/Gymkhana Club area.

In 2011 we had a full metre of putrid floodwater in our ground floor.

A proper flood wall about two metres high from the Iron Bridge to a little past Nong Hoi would probably protect the whole flood plain in that area.1664810344004.thumb.jpg.bc263f10b0611374bc385229f1a12958.jpg
