WASHINGTON, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in his fight with the Justice Department over classified documents seized from his Florida home as part of a criminal investigation into his handling of government records.

Trump filed an emergency request asking the justices to block part of a lower court's ruling that prevented an independent arbiter requested by Trump, known as a special master, from vetting more than 100 documents marked as classified that were among 11,000 records seized by FBI agents at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach on Aug. 8.

The Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Sept. 21 repudiated a decision by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who had temporarily barred the department from examining the seized classified documents until the special master had weeded out any that could be deemed privileged and withheld from investigators.

Justice Clarence Thomas, who is assigned to assess emergency appeals from the 11th Circuit, late on Tuesday requested a response from the Justice Department by Oct. 11. Thomas is one of six conservatives on the nine-member Supreme Court.

Any questions?

It should be laughed out of court. But then, Clarence Thomas should be laughed out of court, too. So who knows? Ultimately, if all the justices get to decide on it, it shouldn't have even the slightest chance of succeeding.

It sounds like Dearie pays attention to the media, he has made reference to things the defendant has said on television in relation to what his lawyers present in court.  In other words, calling out the orange babble.  "What was that you were saying about planted documents?"

Give the good judge a chance - he has hardly had a chance to (not) speak to his wife on the matter!

I hope there isn't any confusion between the stolen election and the stolen documents.

And just think: if Senator Biden had gone tougher on Judge Clarence back at his appointment hearings . . .

(Cut to an image of Anita Hill nodding her head saying "uh-huh")

U.S. court allows Justice Dept to fast-track appeal in Trump case (msn.com)

A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday agreed to fast-track a legal challenge to a third-party review of most of the records seized by the FBI from former President Donald Trump's home, after prosecutors complained the process is hampering their investigation.

The decision by the Atlanta-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit represented a small victory for the Justice Department, which had sought an expedited appeal, and a blow to Trump, who had tried to slow-walk the litigation.

Clarence Thomas can dictate the pace, can’t he?

I think there ever are limits to Clarence Thomas' bias. He didn't decide in favor of the elections lawsuits brought by Trump supporters.

Seems like a lot of things going on , judiciously. Its possible the SCOTUS could take this on!

“Justice Clarence Thomas gave the DOJ a little more than a week, until Tuesday at 5 p.m., to respond to Trump's application, according to the high court's docket”.

I suppose that Mr Trump will soon discover if his efforts to "pack" the Supreme Court have payed out!

As I understand it, the short term aim is to delay everything until the new year, in the hope that Novembers mid term elections result in the Republicans gaining control of the House of Representatives, in which case this and many other proceedings will be withdrawn. If they do not (gain control) I am hearing that Trump will announce his candidacy for the next Presidential Election, banking on that preventing his indictment as he will be a candidate.

I remember when Trump supporters were dreaming about the Supremes undoing the results of the 2020 election. Even if Thomas were to side with Trump there are 8 other justices. And as the 2 conservative justices on the 11 circuit panel made clear, not only is the imposition of a Special Master a dubious proposition, but Trump's claim that there is no way that the classified documents could ever be considered his personal property and that the issue of whether or not they were declassified is a red herring.

Because some of us don't like a dictator wannabe to keep beating the same old big lie that the election was stolen without a shred of proof after almost two years......

Just imagine someone accused you of fraud and you went to court and the prosecutor said oh no your honor we have no proof or evidence of fraud but we have a lot of theories...the judge would correctly throw the idiot out of courtroom and dismiss all charges....but yet trumpers continue to try and bring charges of fraud with NO EVIDENCE....got it?

Yes,  it has been mentioned before .

Anyway , lets get back on topic

I wonder if Trump's lawyers included this piece of information touted by their client in their appeal to the Supreme Court:

"George H.W. Bush took millions of documents to a former bowling alley and a former Chinese restaurant where they combined them. So they're in a bowling alley slash Chinese restaurant.  By contrast, I had a small number of boxes and storage at Mar-A-Lago—very small, relatively—guarded by the great Secret Service."

Some other choice words from that same speech, his lawyers must want to gag him...............lol but then they seem as incompetent as he is.

Trump referring to the NARA: "These are radical left lunatics, they lose documents, they plant documents, let’s see, is there a book on nuclear destruction or building of a nuclear weapon, let’s put that book in with Trump. No they plant documents, they have a terrible reputation."

"I had a small number of boxes in storage… There is no crime. They should give me immediately back everything they have taken from me because it’s mine."

If you tell yourself over and over again how great you are and how all of the folks in DC and NY are out to get you, then you start to believe your own lies.  Every time he bellows like this it just reminds me of Nixon at the podium stating "I am not a crook".  The orange man is a real snake oil salesman, no matter how good he was in certain business dealings, most of the time he suckered others in and they ended up taking the fall.  He also never had a stable cabinet as POTUS, it was constant turnover, and so one has to wonder if life did not imitate art when he said "Your Fired"

National Archives Calls Out Trump for Lying About George Bush Storing Docs in Chinese Restaurant

https://news.yahoo.com/national-archives-calls-trump-lying-162721132.html

He just can't help himself, lying is in his nature and along with stupidity, it's going to backfire on him, even more than it is at present.

Over the past weekend he said the documents are his.  There goes the hoax (man, he loves that one!), the planted documents, and the rest of the nonsense.  How securely the docs were stored means nothing.  Who actually lifted and loaded the boxes is moot. Case closed.  Lock him up.

The only case that can be made is challenging the National Archives, which will be an expensive disaster for him.

It would be high drama if someone called into question who has had access to this info, and I'd not be at all surprised if US intelligence detects info from them in dispatches by foreign adversaries.

Not even Clarence Thomas could find a way to support such empty legal maneuvering.

Lawrence gives a good summary of the DOJ's response to the Supreme Court.  The more times he says "but it get's worse" (for Trump), the better it gets for everyone else (other than his supporters).  One of those "it get's worse" moments is this quote:

image.png.843a46622c50cc9aa813a4e39c8539b1.png

They knew all about the box moving before they obtained the warrant.  There's a mole in Mar-a-Lago providing info to the FBI.  Likely the same person who's "leaking" info to the press.
