Thai society should rethink gun ownership and drug abuse after mass murders

A Thai criminologist claims that the mass murder at a child care centre in the north-eastern province of Nong Bua Lam Phu yesterday (Thursday) will not be the last of its kind and suggests that it is time for Thai society to rethink the firearm possession and drug abuse problems.

 

This opinion was voiced by Associate Professor Dr.Krisanaphong Poothakool, assistant rector and chair of the Faculty of Criminology and Justice Administration at Rangsit University, during an interview with Thai PBS last night, following the mass shooting and knife attack at a child care centre in the province yesterday, in which 38 people areconfirmed dead, including the perpetrator, his wife and their son.

 

He said that this is the second mass murder in the country, after the one in Nakhon Ratchasima two years ago in which31 people were killed, including the army officer perpetrator.

Thailand needs to rethink their entire police force instead. The guy was a know drug addict for years, even when on duty. The police covered up all his wrongdoings!

 

Things like this happen when you have a deeply corrupt police force and people can just buy their way to a position.

There was a wedding in our village recently and all the drunks came out with their firearms to give a salute to the happy couple. Shotguns, a 9mm automatic, a couple of rifles and a huge revolver fired a number of salvos into the air. It turned out not one of them was officially licensed. For many things illegality is the norm here and I can't see it changing.

Thing is, illegal guns are uncontrollable.

Why is the guy speaking nonsense? He is correct. This isn’t about how strict gun laws should or shouldn’t be, the young children mostly had their throats slit with a knife not killed by a gun. A gun shot kill is an impersonal kill, you simply pull the trigger from afar which then travels and enters its target without the one firing feeling anything, a knife attack, like this one, is a personal attack, the person doing it has to be close to the target (victim) and feel every push and strike of the blade going in to and cutting in to, the body and it getting messy with blood covering themselves too. It takes a lot crazier person to kill with a knife than it does with a gun!!

Truth is they don't want to change about anything.

Sad thing is, this will all be forgotten in a few weeks time,

No it is nonsense,the killer used a gun to kill the teachers first.

After that he attacked the children with a knife.

Without a gun maybe the teachers could have stopped him or at least try.

Too many people in Thailand have an illegal gun and too many people know about it and remain quiet.

The saying is "mai pen rai,nobody is dead yet"

A gun is just for killing, a knife has many other uses.

Talking non sense is fine in a lot of topics,for some one who claims to have a super high IQ i would have expected more sense in a sensitive topic like this.

Was this an illegal gun ?  As an ex-cop he would probably have no problem getting a legal one.

Yes his gun was legal and registered in his name according to the news.Actually he had two guns.

Thailand has a huge drug problem and thousands of illegally held weapons.

Time the poor excuse of a government started to do something about it.

Election time kick-out these squatters and get someone in who knows what to do.
