Walking towards someone who’s turning away to kick them perhaps exemplifies a little more than ‘reluctance’….

 

… anger, revenge, whatever the reason… the Thai guy also kicked out… it wasn’t defense, he wasn’t cornered… he was fighting…. 
 

No one deserved the outcome… just two silly men loosing their sense…

 

I hope the Thai guy fully recovers, & I hope the French guy isn’t treated unfairly because he’s not Thai…. Any penalty should be the same as that any Thai guy gets under the same circumstances…

You’re confusing outcome with intent. He was punched,kicked so he responded with exactly the same force,a perfectly sound proportional defence in law if being attacked . There was the same chance that the assailant could have inflicted the same fate on the Frenchman and as he initiated the violence then he is held to be the aggressor.

I have been in similar situations with very aggressive Thai men on Samui. Lived there for nearly a decade. I was always able to defuse the situation with kindness, humility and a deep wai. How sincere was their effort to calm him down? 

 

Where is the entire video? Cannot seem to locate a link for it.

I'd recommend everyone to check out the longer video in this post. It's an awful occurence, but not nearly as one-sided as some are making it out to be.

Not correct. A hard punch from a 80kg guy on a 55kg is not self defense. Thats attack. If you dont know this you know nothing about fighting.

 

Boxers weighing 95kgs dont fight 70kg guys for a reason. The great Carnelo went up in weight got schooled.

 

Punches in street fights are far more dangerous than any body kick.

It didn't show who started it but it did shows that this wasn't a one sided attack. Far from it.

I could only find a portion of the video, where the French guy knocks the Thai man to the ground. He obviously hits his head on the pavement, which can be deadly. They have been operating on his brain, and he remains in the ICU. This could end up being a case of manslaughter, if this guy does not survive. 

 

So, explain to me the circumstances that justify leaving the scene of a crime, or a fight, after your victim has hit his head on the pavement, and appears to be unconscious. This appears to be atrocious behavior, regardless of how it all started.

The video can be found in the previous tread. Basically it shows them standing face to face and the Thai kicking the French guy first. The French guy then knocks him down in one punch... and tries to leave. But the Thai guy gets up and attacks the French guy by kicking him again.

 

The Thais wife told the police that her husband was attacked with no reason at all and was even trying to hide in a shop. Complete and total BS! She also claimed they both attacked him, which is also not true.

 

My point here is not that the French guy should not be punished, but the media claiming this was a total unprovoked attack is simply just wrong. And they have been very smart to cut away the first part, which clearly shows the Thai guy could have walked away from the beating at any time.

Not saying anything justifies what the French guy did. Just saying that this was NOT an unprovoked attack on an innocent peaceful Thai-guy. And the media is for sure not showing it in the right perspective.

Fighting is also skill and knowing your limits.  I weigh 102kg and can throw a fairly hard punch. That does not change the fact that my boxing trainer at 62kg would beat the <deleted> out of me in a fight.

 

If I had been knocked down in one punch like the Thai was in this case, I am pretty sure I would have just stayed down and let the French guy just walk away. Instead he wanted to keep fighting and got punished for it. Had he not been unlucky and hit is head badly on the pavement, most would have said "Ohh well he asked for it".

It's no a matter of legality. The Thai immigration doesn't view brawling and throwing punches favorably. Being a guest in this country behooves one to exercise self-retrain and to act only if absolutely necessary.

That's exactly what was shown on Channel 3 News this morning. I remember thinking "At least the foreigner walked away when his opponent was down, rather than putting the boot in".
