Adumbration
Massive landslide on top of "Mount Mayhem" has just destroyed the road from Kathu to Patong. Looking at the photos it will take them months to repair it properly and billions of baht. Sorry I have some photos here of the damage but I am getting servor error messages when I try to upload.

Oh the original blue prints and pick list of materials required will be drafted properly prior to submitting to Bangkok for funding. Once the billions have been granted the repair will commence using sand, low grade cement, and burmese laborers so that billions of baht can be skimmed off the project. Goverment officials in Phuket would not view this as a disaster. For them it is a significant windfall. They need to span that curve in the road, always have many accident there and then down the hill into the straight away. But by spanning that downhill section they will avoid it ever slipping out again.

ThailandRyan
I thought there was some kind of a house or structure down at the bottom of that hillside that had beach access, maybe my memory is poor. I used to drive that road, ride it as well many times a week when I lived in Rawai and Chalong over a 5 year period.

From your description, are you confusing the road from Karon (hence Rawai/Chalong) to Patong, rather than the road from Kathu to Patong (over Patong Hill) which is the one that has collapsed? On the Karon side, there are a couple of small track type roads that lead to beaches. 1

Best (my opinion) would be north through Kamala to Cherng Talay, then to Heroines, then right towards Phuket Town, right at the Bypass, left at Sam Kong.

A couple of choices I can think of and @pagallim has mentioned one, going north through Kamala and hooking up with the dual carriageway which then heads into Phuket town, and provided the large slips and flooding which were evident yesterday at Kamala have been cleared, then that will probably be the "safest" route, although a little longer. Otherwise go south to Chalong circle and take the road which heads back into Phuket town and takes you directly past Bangkok International Hospital, as there was only one large flood which was holding traffic up from Chalong north. Allow 45 to 60 mins to be on the safe side.
