Popular Post Scott Posted October 20, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2022 Liz Truss will become Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister ever, after announcing her intention to resign just six weeks into a disastrous term that pitched Britain deep into political and economic turmoil. Truss said Thursday that she would step aside for a new leader to be chosen within the next week, after a growing number of her own Conservative Party’s lawmakers said they could not support her any longer. It brings to an ignominious end a catastrophic tenure in Downing Street, which appeared doomed ever since Truss’s flagship economic agenda sent markets into panic and led to a fall in the value of the pound. https://edition.cnn.com/2022/10/20/uk/liz-truss-government-crisis-thursday-gbr-intl/index.html 1 1 2

Several also pointed out she could not heal tory divisions and would lead them to defeat in an election if she went ahead with her fantasy dreamland tax plans. It was made clear by said posters that it would get worse if she went ahead with her idiotic plans. 4 1

youreavinalaff Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Next up has to be Rishi. He said in the leadership race Truss's plans wouldn't work. He was right. A quiet guy with no skeletons in the cupboard. Any mud slingers will find their mud doesn't stick. No razzmatazz. His pledges offered stability and a need to wait and move ahead bit by bit. It can only be him for next PM. 1

He won't have the support of the ERG, or any of the Boris Brigade, so it'll be difficult for him to get enough support. Especially as Graham Brady has confirmed that they expect to put the vote to the membership. He's definitely the best of a bad (an awful) bunch, but it'll be difficult for him. 4

I believe the vote will only go to the members if there is a close race. If the majority of MPs get behind one candidate they will vote him/her in. I think they know there is only one candidate they dare choose.

bannork Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 To compete as a candidate for PM, the applicants must secure 100 votes from MPs on Monday. This favours Sunak.

bendejo Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 If not for the timing of the Queen's death her tenure would have been shorter. She was probably the last outsider to palace to meet with the Queen, hmmmm . . .
