A group of physicians and opposition political parties has petitioned the Thai Administrative Court to ban the use of marijuana other than for strict medical purposes, citing the lack of regulations to protect people’s security, especially children.

 

Smith Srison, a member of the Medical Council of Thailand, and the opposition Pheu Thai Party, Move Forward Party, and Seri Ruam Thai Party jointly filed a petition with the Administrative Court, seeking to revoke the Public Health Ministry’s directive, which removed marijuana from the type five narcotic list, issued on February 8, 2022.

 

The opposing parties accused the Public Health Ministry chaired by Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjai Thai Party, and the Narcotics Control Board of decriminalizing the use of marijuana without having any regulations to protect people, which is against the government’s policy that vows to:

 

“Solve drug problems with strict enforcement of the law and to eliminate drug production sites and drug networks

Same doctors who probably think its better you drank lao khao so that you're at their mercy, strapped to a gurney with your liver hanging out before you're 50. Same in the west but they are pushing pills, ganja again is safer than flavor of the month mood disorder drugs that will put your neuro-chemistry in disarray not to mention ruin your physical health. If COVID injections are anything to go on, they don't even ave to do animal testing anymore on the onslaught of new psychiatric drugs.

One surefire way to expose children to drugs is to criminalise the drugs.

 

Regulated drugs such as alcohol, are much less likely to find their way into young hands. 

 

They ignore common sense drug regulation because they're brainwashed hypocrites addicted to power over others choices.

Pharmaceuticals should be banned other than for strict medical purposes and these dinosaurs sent to Siberia. 

For over 25 years it’s been legal in Amsterdam they have a great doctor job there and great hospitals it’s strange to me how the doctors in Thailand are reacting to this maybe they’re in the pockets of the drug companies that push pills on All their patience TIT

The big difference between pharmaceutical drugs and ganja is that ganja can't be patented, which is one of the main reasons it was banned worldwide in the first place. Doctors are basically drug dealers, who work for big pharma and very few of them have any interest in promoting natural products.

I was trying to explain all this to my new Thai family the other day, when the FIL told me that I'd be going to jail for growing. The other reason it was banned is that the first diesel car was designed to run on hemp oil (or so I heard) so the oil barons wanted to get it out of the picture. 

No word on them about the horrific daily road roll, often as high as the daily Covid death toll back in the dark ages.

 

Absolutely shameless and clueless imbeciles who most likely paid their way into the medical profession.

Alcohol is a much worse drug than cannabis but doctors don't ask for it to be banned (some do, I know). Kids do drink, smoke and have illegal sex, so why the protests now? It's as if someone is losing money. 

Undoubtedly the ban on casinos is for the same reason - too many make money from illegal gambling and don't want revenue taken away by legitimate casino companies.

There are no regulations to protect children? Are you sure about that? (hint: check the minimum age for being able to purchase...)

Smoking cannabis is now unavoidable, as a visit to bar will regularly involve inhaling second hand cannabis smoke.
When will the 20 year old law banning smoking in indoor locations be enforced? Carcinogenic second hand tobacco smoke was bad enough, now we have to contend with the stink of cannabis.

Who was representing the opposition parties? Such bad reporting. No other sources given. Stick to car wrecks and bar busts. Why is so much of ASEAN Now taken up by Pattaya News?

I tend to agree wrt the cynicism where locals doctors are concerned, we all hear how mercenary they can be, pedaling the unnecessary expensive, drugs, treatments and tests to help with their Porsche payments.  Then on the other hand, who are we supposed to listen to wrt medical advice.....? Many deride commentary unless it comes from the holy ones with the MD! Thank heavens I have grown past the age where I want to play around with such newly acceptable drugs.... I have on occasion wished alcohol had been less acceptable in my gullible days, as that acceptance has stuck with me and not always doing me any favours!

These two statements prove the absolute incompetence of these "Group of Physicians"!

 

Ignorance at highest degree since they focus only on the "medical purpose" and "danger" for the youth while experience made from Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Canada and many more have proven that there is little impact on youth, however a BIG impact in reducing consumption of stronger narcotics like the omnipresent Ya-Bah!!

Meth-amphetamines, Ice etc. are ravaging Thailand's youth since more then 30 years!

Even in the most remote village one can find these highly addictive pink pills as cheap as 5 Baht/pill!!

Are these "Group of Physicians" aware that the Ya-Bah prices are tumbling down from 350 Bt./pill to 5 Bt./pill within a couple of months?!

Are these "Group of Physicians" aware that Ya-Bah users smoke up to 8, even 12 pills per day?!

Are these "Group of Physicians" aware about the rising criminality, rape and murder caused by consumption of Ya-Bah, Cristal and other potent narcotics?!

Are these "Group of Physicians" aware that NO ONE is impaired with reason nor aggressive but pacific while under the influence of Ganja?!

Are these "Group of Physicians" aware that Cannabis or Hemp ARE NOT ONLY beneficial for medical purposes but an amazing Plant that can improve new jobs, revive the economy while using these fibers for production of: Paper, Clothing, Insulation, Building Materials etc., etc. and etc.

 

In my humble opinion, all these people criticizing this matter are showing how shortsighted and ignorant they are!

Their arguments are really stupid, since they don't see the big picture...

I am convinced, that the Ya-Bah consumption will dramatically reduce!

 

One cannot become addict while consuming Cannabis! One will never lose control after consuming Ganja!

One will never rape and kill his family while under the influence of Cannabis.

And, you cannot overdose on Cannabis!

No one died on Cannabis use!!

Hypocrisy at it's best again . The price for 1 Yaba tablet is down to 2 baht by now . THAT is dangerous for children .

I really don't think anyone not living in Thailand gives a rat's toss! For those living there, there's always been plenty to laugh about!

Saying marijuana should be restricted to medical use to protect children mixes two separate issues.

 

Marijuana consumed by adults gives pleasure as well as being therapeutic. More than can be said for alcohol, although an uncle of mine was told to have one glass of brandy a day and smoke a cigar to help his heart. He thought one good, more better and drank a bottle a day with his ten cigars for the next twenty years. I digress.

 

Controlling access by children is a separate issue and can be treated like alcohol by regulating purchase age, it won’t be perfect but will impose a measure of control, dependent, like with alcohol, on the level of enforcement, not on whether laws on prohibition are present.

If they switch to medical only, there will be dozens of doctors ready to hand out the certificates to purchase the "medicine".  That's what happened when the first states in the US approved medical marijuana.  Go to a local 420 friendly clinic, get your certificate, and then off to the dispensary.  I think it was $60 to get a certificate when it first was approved in my state.  All you had to do was check the anxiety or insomnia box on the registration form.

So you think that before June this year kids never smoked ganja? The same people that now sell openly to over 20 years old probably sold everyone discreetly before. The new regulation might have got new people to smoke, but my guess is that not many, but those who smoked before are just more open about it now

I'm back in Toronto and the whole city smells of <deleted> and weed. It is absolutely incredible how downhill this country has gone. I actually prefer the smell of Bangkok canals I swear to God.

Wait! So you have evidence that people were no getting stoned and driving cars before? Now is the time for you to share it with these esteemed medical professionals and self serving political opportunists. 

 

I would gave thought that drinking booze or tossing down yaba pills before driving might have been the bigger risk, but you clearly have other evidence about that considering your outrage about ganja.

 

PS, it’s illegal to smoke it and drive. The issue is enforcement as always in Thailand.
