Popular Post snoop1130
BANGKOK, Nov 11 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha praised Thai researchers for developing the world’s first nasal spray from citrus extract that protects users from COVID-19, influenza and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Deputy government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said the prime minister recognized the success of the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the Faculty of Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University, Quantum Biotech Co and Healthlead PCL in developing the world’s first nasal spray, Besuto Qlears, from citrus extract to protect users from the virus that caused respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19, influenza (H1N1) and RSV. The research for the product development was sponsored by the Innovation Technology Assistance Program (iTAP) of the National Science and Technology Development Agency. Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK
The problem with these kinds of announcements from the Thai government is they're typically very fuzzy -- and equally so in this case -- of just how they evaluated the supposed effectiveness of these kinds of products. The full article makes an effectiveness claim of "99.9% of COVID-19, Influenza A virus and Human Coronavirus in line with the ASTM E1053-20 standard." However, I'm guessing that's some kind of figure related to using the spray against viruses in a lab setting -- not in actual human trials that compare effectiveness of spray users vs comparable non-spray users. For example, the ASTM standard they're citing above pertains to: Standard Practice to Assess Virucidal Activity of Chemicals Intended for Disinfection of Inanimate, Nonporous Environmental Surfaces https://www.astm.org/e1053-20.html Inanimate, nonporous environmental surfaces, like tabletops, are NOT the same as the mucosa in your nose or throat. Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK
And more below on the broader issue, which reinforces my assertion above that the Thai government is likely overselling/over-promising here: Could a nose spray a day keep COVID away? Scientists are working on fast-acting nasal sprays to block coronavirus infections — but formulating the sprays is a challenge 31 October 2022 ... "Despite their promise, these sprays have a long way to go: funding and interest from pharmaceutical firms for human trials has been limited, in part because trials to determine efficacy for prophylactics are large and expensive, says Moscona. And the sprays must achieve the difficult task of coating any surface to which a virus might attach, because once viral particles enter even a few cells, a full-scale infection can progress rapidly. ... But, Barclay says, there are no prophylactic nasal sprays except First Defence, which is designed to act as a physical barrier against common-cold virus particles." Popular Post rwill
This has been available for awhile now. Taffix Nasal Spray | Protection and Preventing from Viruses (taffixprotect.com) There are some other similar products too. All have been available on Lazada for a couple of years now. I would just like to add that while this may help you can also get exposed to viruses through your eyes too. Popular Post jaywalker2
Just a saline or hydrogen peroxide rinse is supposed to be effective in killing any covid germs in the nasal passages. And by the way remember when they announced that Thai researchers had developed their own vacdine? Whatever happened to that? 2 2 1

bamnutsak
Hopefully the clinical triall results are published sometime? "Ms Rachada said the Faculty of Tropical Medicine found that the spray could stop 99.9% of COVID-19, Influenza A virus and Human Coronavirus in line with the ASTM E1053-20 standard. It rarely kills RSV but can stop more than 90% of the virus." In Vivo? In Vitro? I think I'll let Thais experiment with this "medicine" for a year or two.

khunjeff
"It is available at Pharmax, Icare, Vitamin Club and Super Drug stores." If this is truly as effective at preventing infection as they claim, why isn't it available everywhere - or even distributed for free by the government? ????

Aussieroaming
Put together with the other "covid cures" developed in Thailand over the last 2 years then I suspect that Thailand will be a shoe in for a few Nobel Prizes shortly and a couple of Darwin Awards just to put some cream on top. Gaccha
The research papers indicate very poor results for all the anti-cold, nasal sprays you can find in Boots and so on. The only genuinely innovative spray designed against COVID is the expensive, Canadian-Israeli VirX (Enovid, Sanotize), which is sold in Boots and online. ...But its research data has similar problems to this Thai "innovation". although at least it sounds less like cargo cult pagan ritual magic and more like something scientically founded. Obviously, all these academic papers can be found online if you're struggling to get to sleep. I've used VirX since it arrived in Thailand and so far so good. But obviously they need far more research even if their foundational hypothesis is sound.

As far as I know research efforts are still ongoing but none of them have completed phase 3 clinical trials yet. Puccini
If you still get Covid-19 despite using Besuto Qlears it must be because you did not use it as directed, every 3–4 hours, including the night, every day for the rest of your life. I think I shall stick to good old snake oil.

I was commenting on the recent (preposterous) Thai claims that they had found a cure for these deadly diseases. My hope is that they find a cure for Lung cancer which is prevalent in many cities because of their failure to curb crop burning/car exhausts.
