Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock has defeated Republican Herschel Walker in his bid for re-election, NBC News has projected. The victory earns a six-year term for Warnock, grants Democrats a 51-49 edge in the Senate, and brings an end to Walker’s tortured run for office.

Ahead of Tuesday's runoff, Warnock's campaign relied on an extensive get-out-the-vote effort involving activist groups and more than 900 staffers — hundreds more than they had on staff ahead of the general election in November.

The better man won in this case.  It would have been a huge embarrassment for Georgia had Walker won. 

Happy I got up early to watch this. It was a bit nail biting for a while. Another Trump pick rejected. Trump's brand obviously stinks.

Trump didn't care about his country, he picked MAGA extremists to bolster his brand. The voters didn't like it and Warnock won by a greater margin than the last election.

 

To be fair to Trump (to please you), I think the radical activist, religious supreme court played a large part in the GOP defeat.

We should keep in mind, though, that the results aren't official until the Republicans claim voter fraud.

He was told to keep out of the Georgian runoff race after he killed off the Republicans chances of winning the senate 2 years ago.

The official GOP message to Trump was stay the hell out of Georgia, your racist message stinks. Governor Kemp had to tell Georgians to ignore the candidate, hold their nose and vote GOP anyway. But Georgians know that it takes more than slogans and that you can't conflate crime and racism with patriotism.

 

The GOP needs to find a proven squeeky clean presidential candidate with an non racist message if they have any hope of survival.

 

The dems now need to remove the filibuster, stack the supreme court, reverse Citizens United, Dobbs and the impending democracy destroying decision on the Independent Legislature. They need to protect democracy from the fascist uprising.

In the initial race Warnock led Walker by about 0.9% with Libertarian Party Leader Oliver getting about 2.1% (about 80,000 votes). Republicans counted on Libertarians to switch to Walker in the runoff, giving Walker the win. 

 

As it was Warnock beat Walker by 1.8% (about 97,000 votes), meaning most likely that majority of Libertarians either voted for Warnock or stayed at home. Oliver did not endorse either Warnock or Walker in the runoff.

 

Libertarian National Committee Chair person said prior to the primary election that in case of a runoff, she would encourage any Libertarians in Georgia to vote Libertarian and "others to vote their conscience."

So it seems Warnock got the Libertarian 'conscience' vote.

Good result. Walker, the election denier, deserved to be beaten. Georgia is better off without him. 

 

No friend of Trump is a friend of mine.

The US is largely a dysfunctional society. The garbage they believe boggles the mind. They are the only western democracy that has a supreme court nominated by a single politician (others have non partisan selectors, usually the bar itself) and has been taken over by religious whack jobs. They somehow elect crazies to the House but thankfully are much more circumspect when it comes to the Senate. I guess because the electorates for the House are much smaller so any cult can get it's village idiot elected. Then they allow political gerrymandering to swing the election and time after time they wind up with the party which lost the popular vote winning the election. The worst form of government imaginable.

IMO you have forgotten places like Russia, China and Iran.

Having said that,the Electoral College has been distorting results for a long time, and is an anachronism. Just like Murdoch has been influencing elections in Australia.

Both Trump and Murdoch got slapped in the face by voters this time around.
