Neither the US, nor Russia has won a war since WW2. I don't think the US have the teeth for anything other than a prolonged conflict with no actual result - which is what we saw in the middle east and Afghanistan.

Red this morning, Russian "soldiers" found with wikipedia print explaining, how a Kalashnikov works! Guns of 50 years old with even no bullets. The guys werent even soldiers.

First Gulf War. The invasion of Kuwait. I'd say the US and allied nations won that one. Anyway, it's not wise to overgeneralize. The First Gulf war was a conventional war. The war in Ukraine is a conventional war. Conventional wars can be won.

When countries get into a conflict to fight insurgent, guerrilla wars it always turns out badly, and  Afghanistan is the poster child for that. The British, The Soviets and the US have all failed.

 

But conventional war thats totally different.

 

Ukraine is a conventional war. Tanks, Artillery, men facing an enemy face to face, in uniform.

 

No war is pretty, but this is one can be won depending on who has the biggest guns and the longest staying power
