Look at how poorly literally everything is maintained here. Looks great when it's new, and then not a baht put into maintenance after that until it's completely fallen apart.
And then it's a series of shoddy makeshift repairs designed to do just enough to keep it running for the least amount of cost.

Look at the roads and sidewalks. The ongoing saga that is Beach Road every rainy season. All those "improvements to remove cables". (Have they actually removed any ?)

I see large stacks of (8"/20cm) water pipes stacked alongside the railway bypass road so I'm guessing they'll be digging that up again in a project that should take a couple weeks but will still be ongoing 2 years later.

And remember the public bus system that was supposed to be the answer to everything ? How's that working out ? I still chuckle every time I ride over a painted "bus stop" on the road.

When the baht bus mafia started blocking the buses and parking in the bus stops, the authorities should have started arresting them and taking their trucks off the road. Instead they caved in and took the buses off the road instead.

Can't see anyone seriously thinking a ludicrious cable car in the sky system would even get past the proposal stage. 

Nevermind what condition those "cars" would be in within weeks of going into operation. Unless they were being cleaned 8 times a day (555555555) they'd be full of used condoms, dirty needles, cigarette butts and empty food packages in no time.

And stuck full of people everytime the power goes out during a storm.

Yeah, that will really help Pattaya's image !

The monorail is not planned to go on Beach Road and is intended to supplement the HSR so not going to happen any time soon.

How do they transfer "thousands of passengers per hour" per the blurb? If each car takes 4 people, and there are 50 cars say travelling in each direction, and they travel at 5km/hr, even at maximum capacity the system will not achieve thousands per hour.

And then the logistical issue of if you spot a nice looking freelancer whilst travelling overhead, how do you pick her up...get off at the next stop and run back?

The capacity of these aerial trams can be quite high.   Detachable cars would allow several on off stations but they would need to have staff.  Would need big parking lots in convenient locations to reduce traffic.   Let's just hope they plan to replace the cable often.  Coastal air and metal isn't good.  The idea of a power outage on a sunny day waiting for rescue could be interesting

Yeah those awful baht bus boys who provide an incredible service day after day for years to haul thousands of people around for the massive price of 10 baht.  Are there a few bad apples?  Sure.

There is a slight challenge to my untrained eye, namely how does one get in and out of that cabin?

 

Of course another one would be if this is about easing traffic... where would be that massive car parks that take cars off the road and occupants into these cable cars? If this is for international tourists, they don't come with cars anyway. If this is for local tourists and residents, they aren't going to take it anyway, especially if they have nowhere to park, and no easy way to get in and out of cabins, or "stations" are too far apart. So at the end of the day - who exactly is this serving?

 

Or is it just a scaled down version of monorail? As in that case, there's yet another scaling down that needs nearly no space and construction costs, which is Dubai air taxi. Why not just replace the cabins with drones then?

 

It's good to see that people are thinking of improving public transport, but this particular idea just doesn't cut it in any way. No matter how impressed the guys proposing it were with cable car, last time they visited Switzerland...

The para glide boats drop them in to the cabin from above, a few will miss from time to time but that will just improve sales at the medical hub.
