More than 5M Chinese Visitors expected in Thailand next year

BANGKOK, Dec 27 (TNA) – The chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand expects more than 5 million Chinese people to visit Thailand next year as the Chinese government announced to lift its COVID-19 control.

Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand, shared his view as China planned to lift its mandatory quarantine on its visitors on Jan 8, 2023.

 

He said that the decision of China would have positive impacts on Thailand and all sectors of the Thai economy. Chinese tourists would increasingly travel abroad and Thailand was their top destination and also was in its winter, Mr Sanan said.

However, the private sector was concerned about Thailand's readiness to welcome the visitors.

But how many Chinese were putting off their Thai vacations for fear of what awaited them upon return to China?

 

If the covid regime is softening for visitors, then it makes sense that it would also be softening for returning Chinese as well.

China has still not allowed outward travel from the mainland for general tourism purposes, so please tell me how again how Chinas statement of no quarantine for visitors kept their own people from traveling outward.

High Hopes For Chinese Tourist Arrivals As Restrictions End

 

 
China will scrap quarantine measures for overseas arrivals starting January 8, in what is seen as a gamechanger for Thailand’s tourism industry.

 

Chinese health authorities announced the move on Monday after nearly three years of strict pandemic border restrictions effectively prevented tourists from leaving the country. China was Thai tourism’s largest overseas market before the pandemic struck in 2020.

 

China’s National Health Commission (NHC) added that travellers would only need a PCR test taken 48 hours pre-flight to enter China.  “According to the national health quarantine law, infectious disease quarantine measures will no longer be taken against inbound travellers and goods,” the NHC said.

 

Restrictions limiting the number of international flights will also be abolished, it added.  The measures will take effect from January 8, when Covid-19 will be downgraded from a top-tier Class A infectious disease to Class B.

 

Monday’s announcement triggered a spike in China-related shares on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) while searches for Chinese international flights also soared seven times.

 

“This is good news for Thailand’s tourism industry, which relies heavily on Chinese tourists,” said a SET source. “In 2019, before the pandemic, around 11 million Chinese tourists visited Thailand, or 27% of nearly 40 million total foreign arrivals.”

 

Thailand can now expect an influx of tourists from China over Chinese New Year on January 22.

So with China apparently in the midst of a large "Covid wave" at the moment will Thailand insist on tight controls for the virus-ridden Chinese?  Or will they be simply waved through?    If so what was the point of the stupidity of the last 3 years?

China has 250,000,000 covid cases, that's about 1 in 5 total of population.  And now they are letting them travel to Thailand. I wonder what checks will be made to obtain an entry visa ?   Maybe a little brown envelope will do

Could be worse. Could be hordes of the usual trashy Farang.......which is least comparable to ever vigilant Chinese.

So what I’m hearing is China’s experience a lot of deaths from the virus and now the government is not gonna report. The numbers sounds pretty good and now they’re going to let all of that restrictions to be less or no restrictions at all so the Chinese to come here give the thia  the virus and then go home. What a deal. TIT

I understand China's easing of restrictions to mean that people who test positive are no longer automatcally compelled to quarantine and there will no longer be complete lockdowns of entire cities or regions.

Just hope they don't  bring over another more dangerous covid varient and cause another lockdown for 2 years.  

 

Hope they are not busy munching on disease ridden wild animals before they come over here too.

All those dirty Farang that underwent confinement to hotel rooms for up to a month, then two weeks to get back in to the country to see their partners and kids are " forgotten "

 

Let's chase the  " Chinese dream " of the Chinese tourists returning in vast numbers with millions already infected every day in China. But, we won't mention it as we don't want to upset them.

 

Don't worry about our internal Covid19 numbers as Thailand is no longer monitoring Covid19 cases, and nor is China.

 

Great idea everyone....let's just import COVID from China. They've abandoned all checks after 3 years of failure and now let's throw any success Thailand has achieved through vaccinations " down the toilet "

 

The Chinese government are even ordering Pfizer as they have probably realised how useless their own vaccine is

Most of the early Covid cases in Thailand were attributed to Europeans....it  was a surprise as previously Wuhan Chinese featured much in visitors here.

Given the utter stupidity of the government in doing this, and its continuing abandonment of its duties and responsibilities to protect the Thai people, like paying money for Chinese vaccines known to be useless, it should not come as any surprise.
