Me too, oh dullsville Virtue Signaler.

But I find more Russians in the pot bars.

From what I hear, note to self: Don't book a weed vacation in Minsk.

Not even a month in the country, and the Russians are already cluttering up the streets and begging for handouts. To think, these guys probably got the water cannon treatment on their arrival at the airport, with smiling Thai girls welcoming them and eagerly counting the money they would spend.

So Russia, the crappier version? Like Haitian-Russia? Any weed updates or is this it from you?

Thanks dull guy, for the geography lesson. As an American, I hold myself exempt from geography.

I was thinking of the the Seinfeld episode where they go to a porn film called One Night In Minsk.

This is not a weed thread.

Playing guitar for donations isn't begging  because people are free to give a donation in return for listening to a live song

It is when they both display notes begging for money and food!

I agree with you 100%. They're not real refugees. I like you as a poster and I respect your point of view

I am quoting myself because that's my opinion: I am happy that Thailand seems to be looking the other way on this. And I hope it lasts.

That's down to my own temperament, not any political definitions.

Shorter version: They have no right to be here. But I am glad that they are.

I don't blame ordinary Russians for the actions of their government.

I recall having to register for the draft during the Vietnam war when I was 19. My mates and I were very much against the war by that time (1973) and we discussed taking out rifles and going bush and living off the land. Fortunately, the draft was cancelled a month later. These Russian are doing what we talked about doing.

Were you there either? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess no.

Just dull grandstanding over my mildest of jokes. Get a life.

I know they've been arrested for begging, but In some countries, begging is seen as working and you can have your visa cancelled.

Not sure what the situation is in Thailand though.

It's known as committing a criminal offence here, not working.  I suppose that they could have their visas cancelled if they're convicted, if the police/court wanted to be real 5hits.

Those Russians aren't draft dodging, they are refusing to participate in a war crime. Good on them.

You need no justification as to why you didn't want to go in the military. It's the free choice that I laid down in traffic to procure for myself and future generations.

My gym teacher asked me, "so you'd be happy having someone else defend freedom?' -like the blowhard above, like it was some kind of gotcha.

I replied:

"Of COURSE I'd prefer someone else wear a drab green outfit and crawl around in mud. Duh."

What part of Russia's involvement in the Ukraine war is defending freedom? Or the Vietnam war for that matter?

So back to original questions if anyone knows?

What kind of visa for most of the charter flight folks..hard to believe they all are elite visa?

Are Russian credit cards accepted in Thailand?

Are Russians able to transfer funds from Russian banks to thai banks?  If not how do they get sufficient $$ to live on?

If Thailand begins to round up overstays will they be deported or could they just flee to cambodia or maybe Burma?

No respect for Commie Laos? Seems like a no-brainer. Like seeks like.

And waaay too comatose to worry about the mass roundups of funny accent people that irate beach town residents are demanding here.

Maybe they could form posse's and ferret them out themselves.

The ones I meet are all about the weed, not the girl game.

It's sort of great to have a new kind of low class tourist.

i too enjoy weed, but for the record it is a vice - not something to base your entire identity on.

Just such a beautiful We Are the World-moment (so let's start giving).

And both were named Igor. What are the odds?

Pretty even considering RU & UA conx.

Draft dodger ... shameful.  As a Yank, I was proud to sign up for the draft, right after the Nam Peace Agreement was signed ... ????  Brother enlisted in AF, as 18 months older than me, and wasn't takin any chance of being a grunt.  Worked out good for him, Nam GI Bill, paid for most of college & home interest.

Me, dummy, actually enlisted, just after the Nam GI Bill expired ????

I was pre-teen during that war, but know enough from relatives and friends whose parents served to never comment about the war being a picnic without having real experience.  You were glad to state that Nam was a picnic, but  ran away from the fight.  I made no claims of being there, but I know enough to not call Vietnam a picnic.  Nothing to do with Grandstanding.  You were afraid to fight, hundred of thousands served and were afraid, but did their best.  It was no picnic.  Read the HillFights - first battle of Khe Sahn to learn about the "Picnic" in 1967.

Education visas are the way most young Russians stay. There was talk recently the Thai government was cracking down on abuses. With the education visa in hand they head to Bangkok bank and open accounts where they can convert cash to pre loaded credit cards and transfer money directly from Russian bank accounts. Bangkok bank may be the only bank availible to them to do this.

Overly interested in sex is a vice.
Over-eating is a vice.
Excessive alcohol consumption is a vice.
Excess pot consumption is a vice.
Excess anything is a vice.

So what to do.   Well, pick a vice you believe you've handled and then subject everyone else to your assessment of their moral character - baseless or otherwise.

Or - live and let live.  Well, until someone else insists that their needs to be a law to regulate You but not Them.

A vice is immoral or wicked behaviour. Basically a religious concept.
