The Treasury Department said Friday the US could default on its debt as soon as June, setting up one of the first major battles on Capitol Hill after Republicans took control of the House.

The US will reach the debt limit on January 19 and then “extraordinary measures” will need to be taken, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen wrote in a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. She said that the Treasury Department will pursue those measures, but they will only last a limited amount of time.

'Avoid at all costs': Former GOP Senate staffer raises alarms about party reviving 'disaster' debt ceiling plan

“Studying this in 2011 convinced us this would be a really bad idea and something we really did not want to happen,” Riedl told the Post. “We didn’t end the exercise saying, ‘This is feasible and smart.’ We said, ‘Let’s avoid this at all costs because it’s going to be a disaster.'”

Yes there  are citizens in the United States that take advantage of the system.
Not to mention all the expats that come to Thailand  from America and other western countries looking for a free ride.

I didn't realise that there were any "free rides" available in Thailand for Johnny-Falang!?????

You need to tell all those Republican ‘Welfare Queen’ States to get to work then.

This ‘Welfare Queen’ State categorization is too simplistic and does not consider budgets, income inequalities, poverty and unemployment within each state.

The recent excessive spending by Democratic regimes involves trillions more dollars not allocated to individual states.

And there I was thinking I pay road tax, VAT, income tax etc. But it was all free all along. Who knew?

Please advise where I can get this free healthcare you speak of. ????

Some people are clearly living in a parallel, socialist, communist Thailand where everything is free for foreigners.

.

On the assumption you are working in Thailand then you will be paying sufficient taxes to cover the public services that you use and support your life here.

However, I wasn’t responding to you and as you no doubt are aware foreigners who work in Thailand are a very small faction of foreigners in Thailand.
