The type of entertainment Pattaya is famous for is losing its popularity

It's called ageing maybe?

Or as another poster suggested.....burnout.????????

I have been in Pattaya for conferences and meetings. Did you know that Pattaya is one of the most popular  locations in Thailand for such events? Not everyone goes there for boom boom.

I don't know why you object to a fair and honest assessment. Pattaya meets the requirements  of many people who want a beachside community close to Bangkok and with many western services/facilities. If Hua Hin had easier access, it would be a close competitor to Pattaya. Not everyone goes to Pattaya to engage in sex trade or bar district.

Conferences & meetings?

Next you will be telling us that you are on a committee that meets weekly.????????

Not really--and if 'those niceties' had to depend solely on the sex scene folk they'd all go belly up.  Those 300 housing estates and the even more numerous  condo projects I mentioned, Central Festival, T21, and all the other very extensive retail of all sorts that I mentioned,  the water parks, the family resorts, all the big, new hotels like Centre Point Space, the hospitals, the restaurants, etc., etc. were not built because or for those coming to visit for the 'sex scene'.  Sorry--but feel free to lay claim to that bar over there.  And, that go go.

I said brought to you by, not supported by. Had western money not initially flowed into the small fishing village, making it a popular place, those Thai baht from Bangkok would have most likely been used to develop beach towns closer to home.

But that's just my opinion as are all my posts.

You went to the wrong places, you need to do a little research to prevent wasting a night out in walking st. Go to the agogos not bars, the good agogos are packed at 9-10pm, Friday I couldn't get a seat in Pin-up, Palace. XS new one has 100+ girls in full with customers

Sorry for being so ignorant, but what is the difference between a gogo and a bar?

But I have to admit that I am not a friend of the red light businesses. And it got awful here in Central Pattaya in the last few years. Pattaya seems to love this kind of entertainment.

Umh, if you haven't been to the red light district for 15 years, how do you know it has got awful in the last few years?

He dropped in for a business conference. No choice on location. If it was him, it would have been held in Hua Hin ????????‍♂️ or at the golf club.

I live in Central Pattaya. And I am surrounded by nightlife. I don't have to go anywhere to experience it. I live in a red light district.

The bars will disappear anyway. Look at the old Made in Thailand bar area. There is nothing left. This area got too expensive for bars. The same happened with other bar areas. The same will happen with Tree Town and other areas. Even with Walking Street. It is just a question of time.

So why not create something planned at a cheaper location? It would help these businesses in the long run. And it would be better for customers too. Moving from Soi 6 to the Soi Buakhao area and then perhaps to the Walking Street is tiring. Every area has different offerings and bar hopping is not easy now.

Why don’t you consider bkk to live? Not all nightlife and has everything needed and more.

I tried BKK for about a year. It helped me to finally quit smoking after very many years. Smoking and the bad air quality there was too much for me. The bad air quality was the reason why I moved away. At that time there were countless motorbikes (the old ones with a lot of smoke) and a lot of Tuk Tuks on the road. This was about 30 years ago.

But there were endless options to do something. And shopping for computers & software in Pantip Plaza was great. There was nothing in Pattaya or Phuket like this at this time. And then there was the airport. I travelled a lot at this time.

And of course I knew Nana Plaza (especially the very special shows on the higher floors at this time), Soi Cowboy, Thermae and whatever. But I didn't go there often. When people visited me when they made holiday here I had to show them the nightlife. At this time there wasn't much on the Internet. You had the Lonely Planet book and nothing else.

you're about due for a visit aintcha? ok so it was better in the old days but there's still value in the place.

If I could have stayed I'd still be there, whether it's not as good as before or not. Whatever, it's still better than where I am.

Sadly, my LOS days are no more. I chose to leave because I couldn't afford health insurance, and short of winning Lotto never going back.

I envy all that still get to live in the best country on planet earth.

Those were 2 stroke m'bikes. I remember well the huge puff of smoke as all the m'bikes at the traffic lights pulled away. Back then it was quicker to walk in Bkk than take a bus, the jams were so bad. The worst was the road to Don Mueang before they built the overhead expressway. Always stressfull not knowing if getting to airport before flight closed, despite giving it an extra 2 hours to get there.

Perhaps not everyone likes traffic jams and concrete. I liked it for about a week at a time, but had to get out then.

IMO most bar beers will vanish because it's cheaper/ easier to find some "company" on the internet. Obviously some will survive as guys like to drink and oggle girls, but the unpopular ones that never had many customers will be gone. It's not the time to be buying a bar beer IMO.

9pm is still pretty early for the Walking Street gogos.  How many did you go into?  It's not easy to see how busy they are from the outside, and if you were only there for an hour you can't have frequented many!

Usually you are grandfathered in if you insure early. Did they cut you off at a certain age? Would be helpful to know to plan my future. Also, it's not required for the O is it?

didn't go into GoGo bars. Looked from the outside when the doors were open. But I looked at all the many open air bars. And there were almost no customers. But perhaps I was too early.

In contrast the action in the Soi Buakhao area starts much earlier. Some sit there already in the early afternoon and have some ????????????. But I guess this is a different clientele. They seem to be happy as long as they have their booze. This is enough entertainment for them already. You have some GoGo Bars in LK Metro too. But I have never been in one there.

If I had to choose between Walking Street and the entertainment in the Soi Buakhao area I would choose the Walking Street. Soi Buakhao is a traffic chaos with bad air. Soi Pothole...not my taste. Tree Town - a parking area with simple bars (what happened with the Pattaya Beach Club there - it is pretty new but closed?). LK Metro has some Walking Street feeling. It is not bad.

I am not a non drinker. But if you stay here very long you see at certain bars the same faces every night or even at daytime drinking and drinking and... Here are many alcoholics. Often expats that don't know what to do with their time in paradise. No job anymore, no old friends anymore, no family anymore...

Bars are a great place for single guys to socialise.

When you live in a small room, why wouldn't you want to go out every night?

When I was single and living in a guesthouse, I certainly did and made some lifelong friends.

A lot of guys that hang around bars are gay. It just seems like it’s straight guys drinking together.

I've not found that,

The gay guys I've encountered here are all vegans/meditation/yoga fanatics.

No need, the vegans have to ell everyone within 30s of meeting that they're vegans.

I don't have a problem with gay guys.
