That's very interesting ... thank's, .... I'll check it out more.  Very sad indeed.  Such a fantastic voice ... I sit and drink GIN and listen to his songs every few weeks.

He was amazing as have been many stars. Prince, Michael Jackson, Cobain, Selena.  Fame and fortune and greedy handlers must be hard.  No privacy ever.  Funny you condemned drugs but brag about you using the alcohol drug?  Think about that.

I sometimes think they must make a deal with the devil for their game like that movie?

Have you seen the movie ‘Elvis’ with Tom Hanks ?... I just saw that on a flight...

Elvis died before I was born... I grew up unaware of the fame and drama, but aware he was the King of Rock because thats what everyone said....  Even though the movie was depicted from the prismatic point of view of Colonel Tom Parker.....   it highlights quite a tragic life even with the success and fame....

It would have been 1957 when i was about ten that I went to see Love me Tender at the local flea pit. Quite terrific, saw them all after that until they became a bit of a muchness mid 60s, but unfortunately he came to a premature and sad end.

Favourite clip is from Jailhouse Rock.

Yup... I get that...  I’m just not sure why such a point needs to be ‘proven’ to the AN readers or why you think there are AN ‘drug takers’.... unless I have missed something on another thread...

I guess in the case of the ’stars’ they can get so ‘wound up’ that they need something to relax...

Or, the only people around them are those who want something from them so the stars want to take something that pushes them into oblivion so they can forget for a while... .. Or, they want to ‘continue the buzz’.... etc etc many reasons...

For us mere mortals other things can happen... i.e. a boozy enjoyable Christmas in the UK, travelling back to Thailand, Jet-lag coming back is worse... Pop a sleeping tablet to try and beat Jet-lag and have a great 12 hours sleep... but you’re not tired the next night.. What do you do ?... have a few drinks ? pop another sleeping tablet ???....  OR... Just wait it out and realise it’ll take about a week to get the timing back...

I guess its easy for people to slip....   I have a couple of ‘Benzos’ in my wash-bag to use when needed...

Helps on flights etc...  but I can see how people may develop dependencies etc

But, again engaging in a fruitless conversation. I will fix it for you, so you easily can understand it. What he is posting is that drugs are not good for you, unless you really need it for an illness or disease. But, sure, if you think it´s good. Out of your way of putting everything, i can also see that you are a person who think it can´t happen to you. Just lay it to rest.

Unfortunately, due to a mutual friend not being able to find me, I lost a chance to go & spend about 1/2 day visiting with Elvis .....

That must hurt!

As a youth I disliked Elvis just for the music as never saw him in person or in a movie, then in my late 30s I saw a VDO of him singing to a small group of people and I became a huge fan. He had an amazing charisma that enraptured me. After that I heard his music in a different way and now love most, but not all of his songs.

Indeed, alcohol is probably the worst drug one can use that is legal.

do you really believe biography's .... ?    I don't ... the reason being they want to sell,  as such make it dramatic.   imo

Totally agree, just read SPARE, which has sold millions and caused much drama.

Is Elvis representiv for the American dream for good and bad?

Micheal Jackson? And who else was intoxicated by their fame?

One who made it his way, didnt do to bad did he?

The only drug I've seen recommended her is marijuana, which is less harmful than alcohol. All of the drugs Elvis took (and Michael Jackson) were prescribed by his doctors.

IMO the American dream is to become rich and live a life of luxury. Elvis certainly did that.

God or bad is entirely dependent on the individual.

We needn't idolize people for becoming rich. He did have a good voice and I understand why people like him. He wasn't my favourite genre.

What drugs are you talking about ?....  Ibuprofen worked well when I twisted my ankle...

Yes, I know as facetious as your post is vague....

I’m guessing you mean something slightly more illicit but seem to be taking a pot-shot (pun intended) at weed uses...   and using comparisons of the effects or far more serious drugs and then projecting that on the forum community none of whom have shown any indications of ‘doing hard stuff’....

... So, I’m not really sure what your point it.. .

I think his point was that drug addiction related fatality was hereditary.

Visiting the King's home about 1990 in Memphis TN was like a pilgrimage.  Graceland.  An honor to visit such a talent.  I did my senior thesis on Elvis.  It was fun visiting Las Vegas casinos with many imposters trying to perform his songs with jumpsuits and long sideburns.  Truly one of a kind talent.

I visited Graceland not long after he died, at that time you were allowed into the grounds but not the house.

I visited again about ten years further on and the whole place was commercialised, you were allowed in the house, but not upstairs.

Across the road were his two planes and you were allowed in them, it was some experience.

Those were the best days to experience Graceland....They still had the Mom & Pop feel with the souvenir shop across the street & the gold records on display at the racquet ball court....

It's on our next trip to do list, but it's more commercialized like a big convention center built around the centerpiece that is Graceland.... Each feature with it's own price of admission....

My wife wants to see it..... I'll enjoy through her excitement....
