As soon as I read this I thought about how thai's don't like farang treading on their toe's or taking business from them.        A healthy 47yr old doesn't die of natural causes.  TIT where anything bad can happen to anyone.

They should do an autopsy might’ve been poisoned I just placed on the couch, put a blanket over them, etc. etc. is the reason why they call that island death island the families that control the island do whatever they want for protection TIT

In most countries if not all, an autopsy is required if you pass away outside of a hospital. When the authorities says no need for one it must be considered highly questionable at best.

He looks older due to not wearing sunscreen and being outside a lot at age is your face, but I really believe there is foul play. Like may be poisoned they don’t like foreigners taking away any local business. They should an autopsy, but maybe I don’t wanna tell the truth TIT

‘Fit and healthy’ = believed to have died from natural causes. If a 48 year old person dies without clear cause, there is certainly plenty to investigate - love the Thais concluding and trying to close also this file with "ripe roy"!

A local diving school might have resorted to the only way to stop the successful operation of the "dirty farang" operation by ridding the market of yet another non-Thai competitor? In true Thai fashion - "nothing to investigate" ???? 

Interesting enough there was a website listing all suspicious death cases of non-Thais; dozens of Caucasians were listed. The site is ............ offline, surprise surprise as it could shed a less than excellent limelight onto the endeavours of the tourism geeks on governmental payrolls.

In the uk Autopsies are carried out on everybody who has no medical history and dosnt die in a hospital even if their wishes  are not to have one. How else can you write cause of death of death certificate. And at this age they should have done so even if just to clear the islands bad name

At least that is how it goes in my country.. but it s more what is the rule in Thailand. I doubt that every body gets an autopsy.

If you don’t expect an autopsy when you are a fit man who “dies in your sleep” then you’re stupid. Unexplained deaths should always have an autopsy, even if only to rule out foul play.

Dive instructors are most often in very good shape with solid physical fitness. So this doesn’t ring true as ‘just died in his sleep, no autopsy needed’.

Reason why I am so convinced that people just die is my uncle. He was a runner (never drank alcohol) and he was under 50 when he died. Just all of sudden he was dead. Never had health problems. It was something with his heart. But no indications before and he was a marine and a paramedic. So not just someone. But still he died and it was natural but nobody expected it.

 

Maybe that made me look at things different.

How do you know this? Did they do an autopsy?

Did your uncle have an autopsy to prove he died? If he did then you’ve just contradicted your argument. If he didn’t then he should have had one.

I lived in koh Tao on and off for 10 years with 2 businesses there.  First i'll tell you never have I or anyone I know been approached by the so called "Mafia" or police asking for money or any other type of extortion.  Never any problems with safety for me and my family.

Now its sad that he died, i know him in passing but not personally.  So the "paramedics" that showed up would be koh tao rescue.  The head medic is a women from England.  There is also another western medic who works with them.  The head medic was friends with Neil, so even if she wasn't on the call to respond she would know exactly what was found and investigated at the scene.  No way no how would any of these people be "in on the coverup".  And yes his body was sent for an Autospy.

 

And another topic i see here is about dive instructors being very fit.  Let me tell you, many instructors drink and party daily, then go diving in the morning.  Many i would classify as alcoholics, start drinking beers as soon as they are back from the afternoon dives and continue on into the night at the beach bars.  Neil, i don't know how he lived his life so i cant comment to that.

This was not the only one recently, on the island itself of known cases in total like 24 of them over the past 10-15 years or so. I believe 2 other diving instructors as well another earlier owner of that school also died.

 

Even on phangan almost every month a young person is found dead in their bed, it never even makes the news. Chiang Mai it would be the talk of the town.

Yeah it was nothing special, because nothing happened while you lived there. It was just 23 more deaths like this that happened.

 

I could say the same, I never had issues on any of the islands myself either, but bad things happen daily.

First of all do not associate Koh Samui with incidents on Koh Tao!  I have lived here for 17 years and sure there is the occasional shooting/murder on this Island, but nothing compared to Koh Tao.  If I were the Village Head, I would ask the Police to do an autopsy to clear the name of those living on the Island.  Having said that I am above average fitness for my age and about 4 years ago I had a Deep Vein Thrombosis, which fortunatley was spotted by my Wife and I was immediately whisked off to hospital for a check-up and treatment.  But as I say, an autopsy would clear that up.
