Tourism, Thailand’s mainstay, is gradually picking up with the easing of restrictions to woo back foreign travelers. In the first five months of 2022, the country attracted 1.3 million visitors, although that is still a fraction of the 40 million annual visitors it drew before the pandemic.

Amid a sluggish economic recovery, the benchmark SET Index declined just over 3% since we last measured fortunes with the baht down by 12%.

The combined wealth of the 50 richest fell by nearly 6% to $151 billion from a year ago. Figures are in USD.

Thailand is home to a number of extremely wealthy individuals, many of whom have made their fortunes through a variety of industries including real estate, finance, and retail. As of 2023, the 50 richest persons in Thailand have a combined net worth of over $150 billion. (Scroll down for Video).

Leading the list is Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, a Thai businessman and founder of the TCC Group, one of Thailand's largest conglomerates. With a net worth of $9.8 billion, Sirivadhanabhakdi has a diverse portfolio that includes real estate, beverages, and retail.

Coming in second is Dhanin Chearavanont, the chairman of the Charoen Pokphand Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Thailand with interests in agriculture, retail, and telecommunications. Chearavanont has a net worth of $9.1 billion.

Third on the list is Premchai Karnasuta, the chairman of Italian-Thai Development, one of Thailand's largest construction and engineering firms. With a net worth of $7.2 billion, Karnasuta is also involved in real estate development and infrastructure projects.

Other notable individuals on the list include:

  • Chaleo Yoovidhya, the founder of Red Bull Energy Drink and the fourth richest person in Thailand with a net worth of $6.4 billion.
  • Vimonsiri Dejkhiri, the founder and chairman of the Major Cineplex Group, one of Thailand's largest cinema chains. With a net worth of $5.5 billion, Dejkhiri is the fifth richest person in Thailand.
  • Thongma Vijitpongpun, the founder and chairman of the Land and Houses Group, one of Thailand's largest real estate developers. With a net worth of $3.3 billion, Vijitpongpun is the sixth richest person in Thailand.
  • Somporn Juangroongruangkit, the chairman and CEO of the Roong Ruang Group, a Thai conglomerate with interests in real estate, construction, and finance. With a net worth of $2.8 billion, Juangroongruangkit is the seventh richest person in Thailand.

Other notable industries represented on the list include technology, healthcare, and logistics. Many of the individuals on the list are also involved in philanthropic efforts and charitable giving, with a number of foundations and organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those in need in Thailand.

Overall, the list of the 50 richest persons in Thailand in 2023 includes a diverse group of individuals from a variety of industries, with a significant portion of their wealth being generated from real estate and infrastructure development, retail, and finance and investment. While these individuals have undoubtedly had a significant impact on the Thai economy, some of them also actively work to give back to the community and contribute to the development of the country.

I'm sure they have all worked very hard and honestly for their vast wealth and justly reward all those in their employment.

I guess Prawit & Prayut were left off the list as they don't have to declare their assets.

Financial sector is mostly run by Chinese-Thais. They are born and raised in Thailand. This include the former PM Thaksin Shinawatra. He is half Chinese and half Thai. They also take Thai names to blend in with the Thais.

Ehm.. Actually they were kind of pressured into adopting Thai surnames so they won't become pariah..

Well, at least we know now the list of the 50 best taxpayers in the Land; all more than delighted over the wise purchase of three submarines without engines .........

Are these people for real; why does not a word refer to monopolies. In a competitive and open environment you cannot earn all that money legally - me thinks!

Chaleo Yoovidhya

Died 2012?

No, it's Chalerm Yoovidhya. And WiKi claims 20 billion USD?

All numbers reflect single persons while they usually form big families worth much more. Just distributed among heirs.

The "CP family" Chearavanont (7/11, True, Makro, Lotus's, CPF, Chinese car brands etc.etc.) is surely more then 30 billion USD.
