Sarasin bridge - Thai DL or passport?

Featured Replies

Planning a road trip out of Phuket for some sightseeing... Passport is not with me, is Thai driving licence  enough for Chatchai checkpoint?

(if the checkpoint is still there?)

25+ visits to, and never asked for either.  Should always have both with you, DL at least.  Can't really remember ever being asked for PP in TH.

Yup DL is enough. I go to Phang Nga every week and never have my PP with me.

Glad to know DL is enough, thanks all.

  • 4 weeks later...

Most hotels ask for a copy of passport, we rode our bikes from south to north of Thailand and every hotel on the way said Thai DL is not accepted and wanted copy of passport that we had (we didn't take our passport though ...!)

All police check points just waved us through, they never stop motorbikes...

if your car has Phuket license plate then there is like zero percent chance you will be asked for any documents. If Bangkok or any other far province then the DL should be sufficient.

I was asked for my passport once last year (I have Phuket license tags) coming into Phuket. I handed over my driver's license instead and it was fine.

I drove through a couple of days ago at around 3pm and the checkpoint was unmanned.
