Thaksin To Be Put Behind Bars Upon Return: Nipit

FORMER PRIME MINISTER THAKSIN Shinawatra will almost certainly be put behind bars and get under the judicial process if he returns home from self-exile overseas, confirmed former MP Nipit Intarasombat over the weekend.

 

Thaksin, who was deposed in the 2006 coup and has been reportedly residing in Dubai, repeatedly vowed on social media to come back home without needs for legislation to warrant his long-coveted return or help from the Pheu Thai Party where he is largely viewed as de facto party boss.

 

Nevertheless, Nipit contended that Thaksin could not practically do so without being put behind bars upon his arrival to this country to serve his 12-year jail terms, given earlier court verdicts on some misconduct cases, plus pending future court rulings on others.

Cut a deal with who?

Prawit, Prayut, Anutin and all the others don't want him back.

Only his own party would try to change the law if they got into power and give him a pardon.

He can win and at the same time he is still a criminal.

Even if 100% of the people voted for him that doesn't change his crimes and convictions.

Thaksin could have stayed in Thailand and he could have tried to convince people that he is innocent of at least some of those crimes.

But he chose to run away. He chose to pretend to be above the law because he is rich enough to do that.

He should go to jail like any other criminal.

Thaksin wants attention.

He is rich enough to live in luxury for the rest of his life, and a lot longer. But that is obviously not enough for him.

He wants that people kiss his feet and treat him like the savior.

In a kangaroo court. No matter what trumpet up charges they pale in comparison to a military coup which should hold a death penalty. Oh wait just grant yourself immunity and rewrite the constitution even remove/deface monuments....

Cutting a deal and coming to an understanding with the big boss might still be in the works......as crazy as it might sound.

Maybe the illegal coup makers along with Taksin will come up with a blanket amnesty proposal in the name of national reconciliation along with a promise from the military of no more coups.

Let's not mention that this 'innocent' megalomaniac cut loose his death squads, giving them a free reign to gun down there opposition/foes, allowing them to cut down innocent civilians who spoke out.

Yes, let's brush that under the carpet and pretend that he was just doing it for the Thai people and not for his own purposes.

 

Personally, I would prefer that he didn't come back to finish off his job of raping the country, a man with no boundaries when it comes to grabbing more power, but there again, I'm not in the habit of hero worshiping an evil self serving narcissist.

Get used to it, IMHO the deal is done. He will come back, go to jail for a few days, there will be protests, he will get amnesty on the basis he personally keeps away from politics (easy to promise).

 

All this media and leaked statements/comments is just about getting the Thai public used to the idea his return is inevitable.

According to your logic a small-time criminal is not a criminal if a bigger criminal was not (until now) convicted. Really?

 

There is no doubt that Thaksin committed a couple of crimes, no doubt at all. But because he was/is a politician some people call it political crime or political prosecution and conviction.

Like if I rob someone then it's a crime and I should be punished. If a politician does that then it's a political crime and if the opposition brings it up, then it's political prosecution. No! It's still a crime!

 

The fact that Thaksin is a criminal does not mean he only did bad things. He certainly also did good things. But one does not change the other. A criminal is a criminal even if he did some good things in his life.

Agreed - It’s rumored that Taksin is owed a few favours, if called in, i don’t think anyone would be in a position to make a challenge.

Which favors could that possibly be? There is nothing Thaksin can do if those possible favors are not granted.

Any prosecution made following a coup d'etat is automatically suspicious. It may be one reason why foreign countries and states welcomed him with open arms - they are aware that a coup needs justification, real or not.

Normally those who initiate a coup are severely punished if it falls. A success means do what you want.

Yes, it is suspicious. But it doesn't have to be wrong.

Many political leaders around the world were prosecuted after their time in some high office. And many of them were found guilty. 

 

I.e. Saddam Hussein was removed from his job and prosecuted. Was that wrong?

In some cases it is not so obvious, but I am sure many of us remember many politicians around the world who were guilty. With others it is difficult to really know from an outsider perspective because different political sides tell different stories.
