Covid cases drop another 30% with only 4% of Chinese arrivals testing positive

I immediately saw that 10 + is 4% meaning 240 Chinese have arrived.  Hmm.

Basically they are not doing any testing 8n Thailand.   Still 6 a day dying so at one time that was higher than the number that was going to close Thailand down.    I'm not celebrating

Even if they end it, masks will be around probably forever.  Still see many alone in their cars with one on or on the beach.

In the USA masks are required in hospitals (at least in the one I go). I asked the technician when are they going to stop mask requirements? She told me probably never. She told me the hospital always wanted masks for visitors but this Covid-19 gave them an excuse and they would probably never get rid of it.

I think it's wise to make masks compulsory for the long term in certain situations.

Hospitals

Public Transport

For food handlers

But pointless in open air situations such as the beach, on the street and on motorcycles.

Does it really matter anymore how many people have Covid infections? It's mutated to a point where the death rate is as meaningless as for any other viral infection.

Old people sometimes die. People with health complications sometimes die. We are going to die one day.

Since there are more than 200 different viruses that can cause a cold or an upper respiratory infection, shouldn't we be testing for each one and publishing all the data?

I wish some at my sons school would read that, they were having races in the play area the other day in the sun of course with masks on !

Any bets on which party will take a position of “it’s time to take off the masks” into the election?

Surely it’s time now,  and it will actually be popular.

It was announced months ago masks were not required even in schools.

With the air pollution being so bad recently, my cousin, a non Thai and his wife are wearing their KN95 masks

to keep the pollution from affecting them. Of course some posters who hate masks will say humbug to wearing a mask

for any reason. It is not the Thais who show ignorance for mask wearing, however there are plenty of non Thais living

in Thailand who just have to complain. Just saying.

I’m aware of that.

The reason they’re still being worn in Thailand is social conformance pressure, nothing to do with Covid anymore.

It will be interesting to see if any party decides to appeal to people,  by encouraging them to show faces again.

There were quite a few people who wore the masks before covid , protection from pollution

But, how can this be? Mask wearing has essentially been dismissed. What NEW evil monster will they invent to keep the boot on the necks of the populace?

So it seems time to end the mask wearing.. announce it....and who has thought that Chinese tourists would be more infected?? same as during the pandameic.. Numbers are unreliable...The only thing that I believe is that Covid cases are less

It will be many years before Thais stop wearing masks, if ever.

Apparently only the healthy Chinese tourists come to Thailand... But the unhealthy ones obviously are heading for places like Italy and South Korea where they actually require testing, unlike Thailand.

Some of us were wearing N95 masks here in Thailand, seasonally, long before COVID came along because of PM2.5 air pollution.

And will have reason to continue wearing them no matter what happens with COVID, at least until/unless the unlikely event of the Thai government getting serious about PM2.5 air pollution occurs.

It's madness.

In  all likelihood, the school kids were being told/asked to wear face masks because of the recent/current spate of very bad air pollution,  which is a standard thing for schools when the air gets bad.

It would be madness not to try to protect kids from air here lately that in many areas has ranged from unhealthy to hazardous.

Yes, sure. But a tiny fraction of those who wear now. Almost never inside. Could go for days without seeing anyone in one.

Around my neighborhood in BKK, most Thais still are wearing face masks when close around other people, especially in indoors venues... And a lot of expats as well....

From what I'm seeing, it's the western tourists who are the most conspicuous in not wearing face masks these days, even in places like the BTS, where they're specifically being asked to wear them.

My son has like all the rest of school been wearing masks since they returned during Covid, the kids are indoors with AC, nothing to do with the air quality.

1. Being indoors with AC doesn't do anything to help with/reduce the issues of air pollution when it's bad.

2. if your child's school is a private one, then they're free to set their own health policies including regarding mask wearing, regardless of those set for government schools.

Have you asked the school why they're requiring the kids to wear masks while at school?

TBH I wouldn’t question the school’s policies more so I keep telling my son not it’s now not necessary to wear a mask but he insists on it, brain washed at 8 years old already.

This is excellent news. Feels like this covid ordeal is fading into the oblivion it richly deserved. Let's dismiss the rat.

Until the next scheduled epidemic.  How many hundreds of billions USD where made on the back of this one.
It's a money maker.  We'll be back to "Epidemic Fear-Porn" in less than 5 years.  Bet on it!

And the most bizarre of all is wearing a mask on a motorbike. Or on the beach. Utter and complete denial of science and facts.

Such things don't really apply in these instances.

The face covering practice, from the get go, is a greater reflection of a sense of abiding by an authoritarian following.

Arrival of China tourists non-issue. Despite the rassist fear-mongering  exactly as predicted. They tested positive but were they contagious? The most important strategy at the national level at this time  re: covid-19 is just stop talking about it. Instead continue common sense public health measures like any other endemic disease that is never going away.

Just go and read the typical fearmongering ramble from about a month ago. People should be ashamed. As any sane person would expect the arrival of Chinese didn't make the world to collapse. Not that I like the Chinese tourists but that is not the point. This (hopefully) last covid craze once again was off the charts.

Isn't it amazing.  For two years this forum was filled with posts about the need to quarantine, have double, triple vaccinations, wear face masks, avoid travel, keep social distancing.  And if we didn't do all that the world was going to end and there would be a plague killing millions.

Now two years later as soon as the media stopped the drum beat heralding each and every death and we went back to our everday lives then suddenly Covid is not a problem or at least nothing more than an inconvenience.

I said right from the beginning the world had never stopped a virus and we live today with virus infections of all kind.  We were always going to have to learn to carry on and co-exist with Covid.

The lesson:  People will eventually analyze all the facts, develope appropriate measures, and pick the best solution.  But only after they have exhausted trying every other lame brain idea first.

Millions did die and it would have been millions more had restrictions and vaccines not been available. The variant Omicron changed the whole dynamics of the pandemic into one that has now receded in the main. Fixed it for you.
