Can I drive from Thailand to Indonesia (via Malaysia+ optionally Singapore+Ferry) with my Thai-registered car?

Featured Replies

I have a car registered in Thailand. I know I can enter Malaysia, and likely Singapore. If I take a ferry from Malaysia or Singapore with my car, will Indonesia let my car in? If so, what's the paperwork/taxes/etc.?

Both Thailand and Indonesia drive on the left with cars with steering wheel on the right side.

Yes, of course you can. For documentation I would refer to Transport Department for respective country.

Info a bit old, but maybe good as a guideline?

Entering Indonesia with a Car or Motorbike

Correct as of: September 2013

Required Paperwork

(To check if you need a travel Visa for Indonesia, application instructions and fees see: Indonesia Visa online application at VisaHQ.com)
If shipping into Indonesia

  • Carnet de Passage
  • Vehicle registration
  • A letter of invitation from the Indonesian Motor organization (Ikatan Motor Indonesia)
  • Letter from the local police
  • International Driving Permit
  • Passport

Probably in MJCM's link, but you need a "Carnet", essentially a passport for a vehicle.

I haven't read any of the MJCM info. so I may be speaking out of turn, but I believe accident insurance is needed for each country. I have no Idea about how to get it though.

That´s his problem.

Then the answer to his question is probably, no it is not possible to drive a car to Indonesia. Not what documents he needs.
