Canadian tourist says Phuket police refused to help after five men assaulted him and stole Rolex/50K on beach walk

Featured Replies

The police didn't want to help because the man was obviously a nut job. Wears a Rolex? 5555 555. Riiiiight. Either way... Avoid him at all costs.

If you wear a real Rolex, everyone will call you dumb.  Big house, dumb.  Nice car, dumb.  Cash, dumb.   that’s why I don’t wear a watch, threadbare shoes (nice adjective) and 5 baht in my s

Imagine committing this crime, then getting home and discovering the "Rolex" is only worth half the 200 baht the tourist paid for it ????

What sort of idiot walks around in Thailand wearing a Rolex watch?

Bunch of Fresh fish.

First fish paid 50K for a  "Rolex".

Second school of fish beat him up and stole it.

when five men roughed him up and took his Rolex and 50,000 baht in cash.

The crown jewels I walk around with can only be removed with surgery...

Thailand resorts... flaunt it and lose it.

Who wears a real Rolex on a holiday to a third world country?? and who needs to have so much money in cash on him/her???Stupid...

While I agree with the ROLEX thing, I cannot even understand why people pay so much money for steel watches with a brand name just to show off to other idiots, since when 50k THB is a lot of money? That's a bit more than 1k EUR? People go on an evening in a casino with more.

Exactly... What a numpty. I put my Omega away and wear a Gshock or Seiko instead.  Singapore is the only place in SEasia I'd wear an expensive watch in the street.

attacked on Patong Beach at 2 am

I wonder how long he had been drinking before going for a walk at 2am - an idiot IMO.

Now hands up who would walk on the beach in Thailand at 2am with cash and a Rolex….No and way may I ask????

Quite a few people who love watches or collect watches may travel with several very expensive watches and as for the cash if only 5k then why not if 55k then maybe its 50/50 risk leaving it in the hotel safe!!!

Well if you lot keep on being so cliched, I guess it will keep on being used... what do we call you, 'triggered'?

I would never wear my Rolex during a 2 am walk on Beach Road, nor my diamond encrusted tiara!

You'd fit in quite well wearing a tiara on Beach Road at that time????!

Just not a Rolex!

I sure bet the response from thailand to negate this story will be to print and distribute another 500,000 tourist brochures to the Canadian public !

That said, what sort of ding-dong walks along a beach in a third world country at 2am with basically 50,000 baht in his hands ?

He looks happier than I would be if I'd been robbed of over a grand sterling and an expensive watch.

I won't mention the baseball cap.  No, really I won't.

Is that your best come back? Poor guy. For you to take the time to analyze what others write so you can come to the conclusion that AN bloggers think they are Columbo makes you a Clouseau in the works. Do you count ants in an ant colony when you have nothing to do????? ????

I actually read the other bloggers comments to see whether their opinion matches mine. Sort of like a gauge. Usually I respond to the content not the gist...

Unless the picture is a library picture, he doesn't look too roughed up to me. I have onlt ever known 4 Canadians in Thailand and 3 of them lived in a fantasy world.

Sadly Canadians can't be bothered with much... it's the Canadian shrug and laissez-faire attitude. Being Canadian I am all too familiar with this <deleted> attitude. Canada did sweet fudge all when the Tsunami hit and getting my embassy to do anything for me is a pipe dream. They are only good at charging for overpriced paperwork.

Back on topic... I, like many others, have reservations to the truth of this guys story.

whatever happen still a mystery with conflicting details..., regardless of the truth it's bad publicity for Thailand....

Indian guy robbed, Sweden boat capsized, Malaysia mom and 5 year old die as boat capsized as well, 110 cops under investigation for visa scheme  and so many more that go unreported....amazing Thailand, the land that keeps giving 555

The police refused to help him, he claimed.

He probably told them he was robbed and had no money left?  Whahaha,  sorry i had to make this joke.

Its amazing how many tourists are walking around with 50K in their pocket and a Rolex on their wrist - on the beach! Still, I'm sure he will have travel insurance ????.  They really should be more careful.

Idiot..

Says he gave them his 50K watch when they threatened him

... but fought back when the wanted the 5000 baht in his bag

Shows the watches real value

It's sad the beaches are not safe at all hours as indicated by many posters here.   And after 2 trips to the hospital, and a shower most likely, his picture doesn't looked roughed up to some of you.  A broken nose isn't always crooked or swollen

I guess he was lucky that no one stole his Ferrary that was parked just around the corner.

What is a Ferrary? Is that like a wannabe sports car for the light-footed? lol. Just messing with ya.

What a donkey waltzing around with bling at that hour. He probably scared the S out of the police with his farangipan speak.
