He Told it as happening like a Clip Joint, ... like I have experienced this, and with my Wife there in a Pat Pong Clip joint many Years ago. ... (They threatened to call the cops, and my Wife had to sort it out.)

LOL. The "clip joints" on Patpong were the upstairs gogos and were notorious for extorting customers which is why only the ignorant went up there.

They didn't call the cops- they beat up the customers that refused to pay up themselves.

Well Yes. ... But our incident was in a Ground Floor place. And it was simply over being charged for Company's, even though I had my Wife there for that. But  well the Receptionist ? That was leading the Extortionist, ... got Pushed away ??? ...Well I do not know if she fell over or not ? I can nit remember  ... but that was the problem that caused the Police threats.

Suffered a bit of price gouging around the corner from Soi Cowboy last spring, 2022.  Across the street from "the Club".  A place that sell cigars, brews and burgers.   Had a cider and burger.   Didn't look at he menu.   Bill came in at 1200 thb and the staff was laughing.

Never had issues like this except in Suk Town.

Midnight bar has been getting a bad reputation for ripping people off. Happened to a friend of mine who is in no way naive or inexperienced. Read the reviews of the place on trip advisor and it sounds like more than an isolated experience.

Cowboy is full of hordes of tourists walking around videoing everything with their smartphones, young tourist women posing everywhere for selfies, even families dragging the small children with them like it’s Disneyland. 
As someone who loved the place 35, 25, even 15 years ago, I now find it almost intolerable. I wouldn’t mind if they took a bulldozer to the whole thing at this point.

… Well, Lucky I did not write about an Earthquake that Killed 45,000 people ? or a war or something like that here ! ... Or I might have got some more negative comments back ! .... Still, run with the Foxes ! … and you cannot complain when the Hounds start closing in on you I guess. ??? ...

 

So I should write a piece of my Memories of Cowboy back in the Early and Late 80's ! ... And ask you older Fellows of what the Bars that I used to go to back then, are called today ?

 

Yes it all used to be Single Fronts back then ? … Like single rows in front of a single stage of Dancing Girls and well some woman from the East, who DID Really have just a Great sense of Humor ! as well as Not minding "Doing it" even one little bit !!! (And I am pretty sure that NO ONE got ripped off to much back then also !!! And I did not either !!!

 

... But the advent of the Whole street being Double or triple fronts now ? Well I DO feel like this Money and Commercialism creeping in ? Well storming in Right !!! and I do not like it myself I must say. Yes I MUST be getting two old now.

 

I will just list some names Starting from the Eastern, Soi 23 End of the street ... Like I did myself over a number of Years.

 

So, a Trip down memory Lane !!! ??? … Good Old Soi Cowboy. (The best Red Light street that I have ever Known !!!)

"Top Cat's" ... (North side neat soi 23 ?) ... (My first) Gone many Many years ago now Like about the first to go I think ??? The place that I learnt “Gone Susi” in when they tell you that a Girl that you are interested in has gone out with another man, … when well with a friend, sometimes she might just be hiding up stairs as she does not like him, or thinks that he is a Cheap Charlie !!!

 

Over the Road (South side) "Our Place" Good management and Good Girls, I knew a LOT who worked there ... and it was always Friendly !

 

A bit further down back on the North side, The Hash House Harriers Place "The Hair and Hound" ? I think. …  I and a bunch of technical crew from a Seismic ship once put some large graffiti in their Toilets, as we thought that it was the Traditional thing to do there, "Trink the Trink, Nuf Said" … But the Mamasan had Just had then re painted !!! … So well not a very good outcome on that night. ...

 

Over the Road was a Sort of Snootie ? Countryish place run by a nice Couple, like pretty German I think that place, ... I think that I went there recently and it has changed names and had the Only farm Fresh sweet and Humorous Essan girls that I could see in the whole street !!!

 

Over the Road (North side again) Bams Bar ... (Pams Bar I guess) which was run by one of Cowboys Daughters at the time ? … Pam I guess ?

 

Next to it Milano’s ? one of the original first Double fronted Bars there ... Run by Cowboys ex Wife, and one of my Friends at that time, rolled her down the Isle like a bowling ball once !!! When she was standing in the door way, stopping him getting out !!! … With the Obvious Pretty negative out come !!!

 

I took a girl from there once and she was arrested in the Blue Fox opposite the Malaysia for Prostitution once, the cops kicked me out of the Songtaw as I wanted to go with her, … So the next day, I went with Cowboys Ex-wife from Milano, in a Taxi to the Police station to get her out !!! … And she chastised me for not getting her out the night before when there were not so many Top brass there to be Paid off !!! ... … Yes it was the 80's !!!

 

Back in Cowboy, and over the road again in the middle on the South side, Cowboys the original !!! … Though I think that Cowboy had Moved to Soi 33 by then ? (Where one of my First Woman took me to meet him, oh early 80’s … and well later ? or before to Washington Square.  … I never went in to Cowboys ! It looked just TOOO .. Institutionalized to me, like I was young then, AND a back Packer also ... I went to Ding Dongs, Jonathan’s bar ? and Our Place Mostly.

 

So over the Road (North Side again) Jonathans ? I met him in a Pub in Earls Caught once, the Kings Head where they made part of the Barry Mackenzie Movies, …  a lot later on, …  but had forgotten who he was Like he WAS a pretty good guy Jonathan though well I and my Missus had a disagreement with another Boss Girl in there which did NOT turnout well !!! Like she threw a large plate of Coleslaw at me, … missed and it hit Jonathans Mirrors .. Badly !!! … So well, … He remembered me !!! Lost half of his customers that night so he says … And well Not to many stories out of School, but when the Local Thai boys started taking their Buddha’s, and jewelry off … I DID quiten down and Just go Home !!! With my Wife fowling me about 15 meters behind !!! … Like she is still here nearly 40 Years later so well though probably not a usual mirage ceremony, well it worked !!! right …

 

... And another one in Dingdongs bar a bit later on I think ??? with the terrible “Tim” and her Offensively Used Torch !!! right ??? – Hit my Wife over the head with it … for me setting up other men to not have to pay the bar fine !!! ... And well then she REALLY was Min, as she gave the whole lot of them the Finger … Well she took a swing at her and Missed …

 

Thai Weddings always as a But Rough I think ? 2 families Involved and often a lot of Un finished Business right ???)

 

… Yes, Then Ding Dongs next to it !!! ... Where I knew the most girls from Initially, and I had a deal with them ... I bought the mixer, like red Cordial, and they bought the Half Bottle of Whiskey, and we hid it under the bar and I got <deleted> for almost free or we drank it sitting in the Open Bongo taxi outside. Like it was a street for Cars back then. ... And God, what were those Little Bongo vans Called ? … “Supperoos” I think. … Just what you needed for a party or when you have to get all of your stuff out of your House, as the Accidentally On Purpose, Slum Clearance Fire is coming, and the huge chunks of Charcoal start falling out of the sky, and on to your roof !!!

 

Yes Ding Dongs WAS My bar, well until the owner Sent me Yes the usual "Or Else" message and my Wife hit me in the Stomach with her bag as she left !!! … As I was translating for the tourists and arranging for them to meet their girls down at the end of the street, by the Tuk Tuks so that they did not have to pay the Bar fine ... Yes it was back in the 80's ...

 

Later on their was "Longgun" over the road and on the South side again almost up at soi 21 - Asok.  Which had the first Shops in the street as far as I could tell, I think that ding Dongs had some pretty tame stuff though. Like the girls I knew there, would give me a secret touch when coming off of the stage, or going out the door with another man !!! …

 

Yes most definitely the best Time of my Life.

 

And well that was my World for Oh ? … Well several Years I should say ... Well when I started working OFF Shore on Ships, my world DID expand Considerably I must say though.

 

Still, back then, we lived in was it 269 Soi Dontong Larn, ... soi 22 down the end past the School ... with a bunch of girls that worked in Cowboy ... in the Woman’s House. ... The Taxi drivers, Men, lived in the house next door. ? And Tex ? ... No Tarzan, ... The Guy who used to do a show in Hong Kong, back then where he used to Hold two light bodied Woman up in the air, … one on each hand !!! ...

 

Most of the Girls we knew went and Lived with their eventual catches in Sweden or Switzerland, Dum never did, she had Children, but was Very Much looking like the Alcohol was just about Killing her, last time we met her, ... and well some of them that went to Europe are Dead now. I am 67 and I lived there when I was about 30, … and well they all were about that also, ... Back then.

"Soi  Cowboy "not much better just sit outside is best Only myself to blame .. l prefer if going bar soi 4 Nana outside bars only steer clear of all go go bars.. Hillary bar at night live music back few year ago was ok just watch ya bill slip or as l learnt pay each drink at the time. 1 drink I pay bill , found it easy for myself

there is a group of bars that are owned by a person that has been given the nickname 'the arab'.  i've heard he's actually persian and possibly has american citizenship.  so i'm not sure how the nickname started.  midnite, which is referred to here in this thread, is one of them.  these bars usually have some pretty girls standing out front so new visitors might be tempted to go in (most of the other bars don't use girls outside to lure customers inside).  the locals know not to bother.  bad things usually happen.  if this story did happen, it likely happened in this group of bars.  just use google to find out the bar names if you are interested.  the arab has been discussed widely on thailand specific sites.
