Who is the fugitive criminal? If you're referring to Thaksin he hasn't been tried in court yet.

You really need to do your homework. Court gives Thaksin another 5 year sentence. Emphasis 'another'.

Irrespective. He is a convicted criminal. If he was/Is innocent then why did he flee Thailand by skipping bail? Aug 2008 he went on his own accord.

With 250 seats already in the bag Prayut can't lose. Any other Party would have to get 75% of the votes, very unlikely.

IMO the 250 senators are key to electing the Prime Minister but not necessarily a done deal for Prayut. The 250-person Senate is composed of 194 members selected by the ruling junta and as of 2020, only 104 of the 250 senators are military or police officers. 50 senators were from professional and social groups and not appointed by the ruling junta. All members served 5 years up till 2024. If UTN and PPRP don't do well in the election as most have predicted and unable to form the government, the senators will likely to be looking beyond their service to ensure the best outcome for their future. Those who may harbour thoughts of being re-elected for another of 5 years (senators are very well paid up to 100k+ monthly) may abandon their support for Prayut. After all, senators like all other politicians can be infuenced by better offers and political pressure.

So was Nelson Mandala - politics in the court system here is pervasive - it gets political parties shut down, people allowed to leave the country and jails innocent protestors. Defending THAT is monstrous.

Do your homework. Mandela served his jail term. Thaksin hasn't to date.

He was finally released from prison in 1990 after over 27 years of unbroken incarceration. Eighteen of those years were spent on Robben Island. Following Nelson Mandela's sentencing on 7 November 1962 the Pretoria Magistrates Court issued a warrant committing him to prison for five years.

I'm hoping for a departure from the status quo and a third, more progressive party like MFP to step in and lead the government. It's time the bickering between the yellow and red shirts ends and a fresh new start is made.

The so called crimes are the same as every official in Thailand does on a daily basis!

Really?

And were all those other officials also convicted?

And are all those other officials also as rich as Thaksin?

And did they all flee the country?

I know lots of other people are also not clean. Prosecute them, convict them, and then jail them.

"Others also broke the law" is no defense - especially not for a PM who should be a role model.

He held a coup?  he's no angel but nowhere near as bad as the guys now AND Thais would vote for him in their millions (you are not a democrat it seems).

Only because millions of people think it's a smart idea to vote for a criminal who thinks he is above the law doesn't make that a good idea.

I never know if it's supposed to be funny or sad or just stupid that the same people vote again and again for the same corrupt politicians and then they are somehow surprised when they have a corrupt government. It's just stupid!

And about democracy: The idea is good. If informed citizens vote for the best person they know to lead them that is great. Unfortunately that is not how it works in Thailand and in many other places in this world.

Thailand will only progressed politically and economically if the middle class, elites and the military respect the wishes of the people to decide their leaders. Forcing the people to accept their form of government in the last 2 decades have failed and caused division in the country and stunt economic growth. The military take the worst of blame for the nation woes. They should never be allowed to take up arms against their own people.

The one that'll win is the one party that has enough money to buy enough votes to win.

If that’s the case, surely the elites with the big corporate supporters should easily win every elections.

Peau Thai will win the election like they have won every election for the last 20 years.

If they just win Prayut will rig things like he did last time and declare himself the winner.

If they win in a landslide they will take power for a while while Prayut and co come up with something to take back power.

Thaksin dragged millions of Thais out of poverty. And they wont forget it. Thay love him.

Daughter is quite hot and will be the hottest PM in the world.

Last election:

Popular vote
Pheu Thai: 7,920,630

 Palang Pracharat 8,433,137

That are 500.000 more votes for Prayut.
Thaksin did vote buying like never before and most of the middle class hate him. Also the complete south hate him. Of course also many people mostly North and North East love him, but by no means "Thais" in general.
