Don't need a scale, as the whole wall/closet doors are one giant mirror.   If that's not enough to tell me to ease off the pastries, then looking down and not being able to see my buddy should be a clue ????

The mirror thing isn't accurate enough, by the time you realise you've put weight on it could be hard work to lose

there are healthy fats and unhealthy fats.

unhealthy fats cause all kinds of problems.

ghee is considered a healthy fat by all non-misinformation health folks.

if you don't eat ANY healthy fats, you will also have problems.

for instance, your testosterone levels will be low if you don't eat healthy fats.

so just blaming weight gain on eating ghee is inaccurate.

of course you can eat too much of the healthy fats.

but i think very few people are getting too much of the healthy fats.

most people are probably not getting enough of the healthy fats and consuming too much of the crappy fats.

all foods in supermarkets use crappy fats and restaurants use crappy fats to save money.

McDougall's got another video out, it's good, he talks about the low carb make yourself sick diets. Worth watching, 2 hours long but i appreciate most people can't concentrate more than 5 minutes.

@georgegeorgia

I benefit from fasting, but not the type in OP, or for the reason, cleansing, in the OP.

Fast daily (intermittent) from last munch till first munch the next day, and usually about 12-15 hrs, half while sleeping.

Helps maintain a constant weight, with minimal exercise, and common sense eating.

Intermittant fasting is a good way to go.

Question: will drinking Gatorade Zero (sugar) stop autophagy?

It just has minerals in it, I think

Fake sugar still spikes your insulin production, so probably 'yes' it will.

I must do this a few times a week for 72 hours ...fasting !!!

How long have you done it ,72 hours seems a long time

Can you fast for 72 hours a few times a week?  72 only goes into a week 2.33 times according to my calculations.

To cut a long story short who benefits here by fasting ?

I think it's pretty good for weight loss.  A lot of people recommend it, so it doesn't sound like quackery.

I also heard in a YouTube video somewhere that negative things build up in our body tissue that don't go away unless we fast, because we aren't really properly adapted to always having food.

I did keto for a while, then i started to add back carbs.

because i came to the conclusion it's not healthy long-term.

so we agree on that point.

one thing I noticed is that the keto folks tend to supplement with electrolyte powders.

so that means keto is a deficient diet.

and where do most electrolytes come from?

fruit.

also, is calcium an elecrolyte? not sure, but you need dairy for calcium.

so I started eating a lot of fruit.

most of my carbs are from fruit.

not sure if i'm eating too much fruit. quantities is tricky.

some doctors are anti-fruit because they say too much fructose if bad for the liver.

i eat some dairy, which has some carbs.

i eat a couple of tablespoons of raw honey, which has some carbs.

but the fruit and honey also help to curb appetite for unhealthy sweets.

most people have a sweet tooth. if they don't eat the only healthy sweets available (fruit and honey), they will end up eating cakes and ice cream and coca-cola.

not a fan of brown rice. i think it's undigestible.

maybe white rice is ok. not sure.

most bread in supermarkets is made with unhealthy oils.

but from a nutritional standpoint, fruit is more nutritionally dense than white rice.

fruits have a bunch of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants.

compared to white rice, which seems mostly like empty calories to me.

and again, the fruits have the added advantage that they help stop cravings for cakes and ice cream.

also, mcdougall's recommendations for macro ratios seem inaccurate.

too low in (healthy) fat and protein, too high in carbs.

and also, i'm not fat but neither do i get my bloodwork done.

so i am not really recommending my diet.

i just came to this diet based on what i read.

and it seems the most sensible to me.

Not inaccurate, he and others just recommend high carb low fat, works good. He kinda disregards this healthy fat vs bad fat thing that people parrot all the time. Body will put fat on whether good or bad. Anyway watch the video and report back, I'm only half way through, all the usual good stuff in it

But generally on health matters so many people on this forum spout off about nutrition as if stating facts where in most cases doctors disagree and there's always opposing opinions. Some here think low carb is the only way and spout off about that, etc etc

Nutrition is rather complex.

And science seems to be inconclusive and/or contradictory in some aspects of health.

This is why you can find doctors/nutritionists debating each other online.

They simply cannot agree on everything.

That's why I have learned to try not to be too dogmatic about my beliefs regarding nutrition.

And my beliefs change over time.

So at some point, you have to take in information and make up your own mind.

I'm outta here.
