RTP do it on a daily basis.  Soi dogs; unchecked pollution; scamming taxi drivers; it's a wonder any tourists come here.

The tourist did nothing to harm Thai tourism. His revelations about the lack of maintenance is what hurt tourism. Let's get our facts straight, and be man enough to stop deflecting blame.

"It was decided that the cord had broken perhaps due to wear that could not be ascertained with the naked eye."

If damage and deterioration can not  be seen with the naked how will it be possible to make a safety inspection?

Normally by the number of jumps made by using that cable.

Alternatively by the age of the cable.

So a Bungee company in Pattaya uses defective equipment which fails and is dangerous and the focus of the article seems to be that reporting the incident is unfair to Thai Tourism. The equipment was obviously replaced after the accident so the checks now are pointless. Why was this not reported on the day of the accident?

Can somebody help translate the below into Chinese?

(Asking for a friend in the bungee jumping business)

Do a web search for “‘cliff top monastery joke”. Never thought I’d see this ancient joke come to life in the real world.

I used to erect tower cranes & other types of machinery based on tower structures. Our harnesses were checked daily & the first sign of wear or any kind of flaw the harness was binned immediately. I cant believe any flaws were not spotted on this harness to the extent that it snapped in the end.

In the real world this is a major accident that just shouldn't  happen given the safety laws surrounding such a vital piece of equipment.

Heads should now be rolling.

License to operate is in order but are routine expectIon done by experts who know what to look and test inspection records kept?  RTP are now experts?  Suggest replacement if old?  that's the standard?  Up to you we know the honor system doesn't work here.

He was given 12,500, which 10,000 for medical checkup, left with 2,500 barely covers a ST at Soi 6?????????

Anyone who comes to Thailand and does extreme activities is a fool. Safety standards are rarely taken seriously. If the rope looks OK after 2000 jumps then keep using it .  In Australia the rope must be retired after a certain number of jumps even if its still in good nick.

Of course the inspection of the bungee, jumping apparatus checked out OK. The accident happened last month. You don’t think they repaired the equipment immediately so they wouldn’t get caught.

Naew Na Thai Caption: Bungee jump inspected after tourist complained to foreign media

Naew Na reported that the Hong Kong tourist who went to the media in his homeland after a bungee cord broke in Pattaya had damaged Thai tourism.

A wise man to go to his homeland before going to the media. In Thailand he could have been thrown in jail for slander if he went to the media.

the tourist is free to talk about anything in his own country.

Thailand has different regulations about speaking out, but that does not mean the whole world has to be the same

i am surprised the bungee jumper wasn't blamed sued and deported.

One could make the case that the tourist harmed the nation's reputation as well as the firm operating the bungee jump. So potentially both civil and criminal defamation. Especially when jumper posted on social media. And facts to the contrary are irrelevant. Defamation in Thailand is about state of mind.

How can it be ok, it snapped. What they done tied a double reef knot and now it's ok to continue?

When you are preforming dangerous sporting activities things can go wrong that is why you sign a waiver absolving the company of responsibility. Get over it boys s--- happens

Until you are sued then it is for real

Bungee jumping incident is a fluke, but educating the world on the cancer causing toxic air

is not a fluke.

You can be sure after these reports that "bungee jumping" activities in tourism will suffer....and when the name of this park will be revealed I am pretty sure that the owner may need to prepare his closure, whether he his guilty or not. Social media have such enormous impact and influence on our all behaviour what everybody should be aware of.....I am afraid sometimes.

...After The Fact...Now Okay...(?)...

...And Who's To Say The Media Did Not Seek Out 'A Bungee Accident Survivor'...(?)

..Not Cool to Blame A Victim Of A Real Incident....(?)

One month after the accident, they really do care about safety.

Thankfully, just before Songkran......LOL

If there has been any further damage done to Thai Tourism, it is by the Thai Authorities themselves.

Lets recap

The Rubber chord of the Bungee Jump snapped !

Hardly OK IMO

Should have been declared dangerous and closed within minutes.

And for the Authorities to take 2 or 3 Days to get their act together and declare this after finally visiting the structure and doing an " investigation " is a nonsense that says to the entire World.

Ho-Hum, your safety really does not matter here in LOS

We had your money for the Jump

What arrogance.  The HK tourist did not 'damage' Thai tourism.   No, that was the deeply embarrassing, luckily not fatal, accident that did the damage.  And, no, the cord was, obviously, not 'ok'.   Nor, no doubt, was the 'inspection'.

Hook Line and Sinker.

The Naew Na article did not actually say that the Hong Kong tourist damaged Thai Tourism.

If you dont believe me read the link. If you can not read Thai ask a Thai to read it for you.

Just a wind up from the translator to upset you. Happens all the time in the age of advertisers paying per click.

Dont be fooled mate.

So, bungee jump back on itinerary. Happy, happy, for you. Afternoon you take elephant ride, go for zip line in jungle, feed crocodile, learn how to charm cobra. Tomorrow rent motorcycle, go for para sail, and take picture you pet tiger at zoo. OK, na?

Brings new meaning to the phrase "bucket list".  Any one of a number of unforgettable activities in Thailand that might lead to you kicking the bucket.
