GOP weighs protecting Trump with law shielding ex-presidents from prosecution

Would such a law violate the Constitution?

In the specifics of allegations of insurrection against Trump it would annul Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment and in respect of all Presidents past and present it would annul Section 1 ‘deny equal protection under the law’ because a President, past or present, who is above the law could shoot somebody in the head on 5th Avenue without facing legal consequences.

The Federal Government cannot enact a law limiting the ability of State Jurisdiction prosecuting anyone for breaking that state law, to do so would breach the Tenth Amendment.

The Tenth Amendment ordinarily being one dear to the hearts of Republicans, but then so is expediency in matters protecting their own law breakers.

From the source article

In response, Jordan, Comer and Steil said their inquiry is legitimate because “the potential criminal indictment of a former President of the United States by an elected local prosecutor of the opposing political party (and who will face the prospect of re-election) implicates substantial federal interests”.

Bragg didnt have all of his ducks in a row , now he’s forced to rethink the whole matter.
Happy to see this has become a election issue. Winning the majority in the House after the midterm by the Gop was so important for America !

After inviting Mr Trump to come infront of the GRand JURY, he didn’t expect to have the convicted felon liar Cohen’s lawyer produce evidence that

Cohen took it upon himself to settle Stormys NDA.

I’ll see your ‘Jordan, Comer and Steil’ and raise you a ‘Tenth Amendment’:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

You bet your sweet bippy it would.....in the same breath of air they use to spout this rhetoric then why not just strip Biden of his Predidential position and reinstate Trump....same difference in my book. Trump needs to go to jail...and so does anyone else who has broken the law on either side.......

Bring back Rowan and Martin's Laugh In.

While I can't support that, as we all know a POTUS that was a crook, I love for it happen just to see the opposition melting down in outrage.

Not a snowballs chance in……… of that becoming law lol ???? but an admirable job of sucking up to trump lmao ????

The problem is... they WOULD if they could...

They didn't have control of the House before. Now they do.... and clearly they're aiming for more.

The American people need to be clear in understanding, this is the kind of "despotry" they should expect when these kinds of clowns are elected.
