Phuket – The Army Region 4 Commander inspected and followed up on beach management in Phuket for the confidence of both tourists and locals.

Yesterday (March 27th) the Army Region 4 commander Lieutenant General Santi Sakuntanak inspected Kata Beach in Karon and Freedom Beach in Patong.

Lieutenant General Santi told the Phuket Express “There are many Thai and foreign tourists visiting beaches in Phuket. Tourist safety is very important and with the cooperation of everyone we can still conserve our beautiful environment and nature by following rules and laws.”

Name a single country, any country, where the army restricts itself to defense duties only.

Several years ago I was talking to the mayor of one coastal town and asked why do you have bins on the road, 100 meters from the beach? Why not put them on the beach?

He informed that the municipality owns the road area while the beach is owned by the state and controlled by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, which doesn't allow waste bins on the beach. Neither side could work together. Sad.

Yes! Nothing is more relaxing than having a squad of soldiers milling around the beach while you're sipping your Mai Tai.
