AN IRAQI man who overstayed in Thailand for more than eight years fainted when Chonburi Immigration and Pattaya police showed up at his house to arrest him yesterday (Mar. 28), Naewna newspaper said.

Pol.Col. Prinya Klinkasorn, head of Chonburi Immigration police, said the Iraqi man, identified as Mr. Khalid Majeed Ali, 52, had hidden in Pattaya’s  Mabyailia community for a long time. He did not have a job nor did he socialise with anyone and it was feared he might turn to crime.

However as soon as the police team showed up at his house where he was sitting in front he turned pale and fainted and was immediately given first aid.

An examination showed that Ali arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on November 17, 2014 on a 60-day tourist visa valid till January 15, 2015.

He came from Iraq since he lost his goat! So far he was in mourning....now plan B is 72 virgins...

Deportation assured paid by the Iraqi government ? No mercy for overstayers - he may get asylum in Germany where he can have a comfortable life paid by tax payers. Overstaying 8 years x annual agents fees I assume the total loss for agent and immigration to be over 200,000 baht

Not quite, IDC (which is not the Bangkok Hilton). Not a place I fancy spending any time.

Eight years, why did it take 8 years to find him?

No TM30 or 90 day reports?

Ten years I expect.....

Is that his wife ?

Yes, 10 it is. I just hope he has the wherewithal to get a flight out quickly. An Uyghur asylum seeker (was trying to get to Malaysia) that had been in IDC for more than 9 years died in there recently, I couldn't imagine being held that long in such squalor.

Nope, pressure from the Chinese allegedly, his family had already been dragged back, not a pleasant story and around 50 others still held.

Edit: tracked down a report on it, his brother was taken back but his wife and kids made it to Turkey apparently (from memory I thought they'd been dragged back too) https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/02/24/death-of-uyghur-muslim-held-by-immigration-aziz-abdullah/
