One door closes and another one opens. That’s the case with the original Robinson department store in Phuket Town, just after a new Robinson shopping centre opened up adjacent to the Heroine’s Monument 8 months ago.

Phuket residents are preparing to bid farewell to the island’s oldest department store as it prepares to close down after 28 years. Robinson Ocean Phuket, right in the heart of Phuket Town, will close its doors for the final time on June 30.

It will be remembered as the island’s first department store and indeed, the first department store in Thailand to have a glass lift (considered very ‘fancy’ at the time). KFC also opened its first Phuket outlet in Robinson Ocean Phuket.

Yes, I remember that one. Escalator etc. Was still open when new Robinson open but closed a few years later. Spooky to walk about. I always thought it was replaced by the new one ?

There's a new Robinsons shopping mall going to open (currently under construction) next to the large new Thai Watsadu on the west side of Chaofa East in Chalong, between Soi Palai and Soi Ta-iad.
