Every pharmacy in Thailand sells them.

"As par it" is how the Thais pronounce it.

Do not use the term "baby aspirin" when you ask for this.

Jusr ask fot Aspirin 81mg or better yet "aspent" the best known brand name

If you want specific pharmacy suggestion please indicate where in Thailand you are

Is it a good practice to take these meds daily if you have had no previous cardiac problems? They will not treat high BP or anything like that, no?

Used as a blood thinner to reduce the chance of strokes.

Perhaps ask your Dr who should know you best?

The cardiologist I went to see. Told me to stop taking them.

Same here, a GP told me to take it, and I did for some years, 81mg a day, then a few years ago a cardiologist told me to stop, he said medical opinion had changed.

No.

Should not self prescribe this.

On doctor's advise can help prevent heart atrack or stroke in people with specific risk factors.

I live in Nonthaburi

I have been to a few pharmacies and they tell me I need a prescription.

This is not correct, but there does need to be a grade 1 pharmacist on duty at all times to sell this, and that is rarer than one might think so not all pharmacies carry it.

You need a large Thai pharmacy. Definitelytnot a Boots or Watsons and not a small place.

You can also purchase online and have it delivered at any of these:

https://bangkokdrugstore.com/?s=aspirin

https://medtide.com/?post_type=product&s=aspirin

(have to register first then log in.)

(use the Messenger function, web search does not work)

Sorry a bit off topic. In Europe the "baby aspirin" dosage for blood thinning purposes is mostly 100mg. Thailand and US seems to be 81mg.

Why this difference and is it significant?

In the UK it is 75mg dispersible.

It all depends on why you were taking them in the first place.

I had been on aspirin some years and around 2010 a UK doctor suggested I should take warfarin instead, I politely declined.

About 6 years later a Thai doctor said the same thing, and that the risk gets greater with age. again I declined the warfarin and after some consideration started on apixaban.

At the end of the day it is all about risk, either taking the medication or not. Fortunately today in respect of blood thinning the options are a good deal wider than a few years ago.

Not significant. 75, 81 and 100mg will all serve the purpose.
