As election draws near, dissolution rumors grow

Thailand’s political landscape is currently in a state of flux, with potential alliances, election predictions, and switching allegiances dominating the discourse. However, with the election just a week away, a persistent rumor has been making its way around political circles.

 

According to numerous sources both inside the current opposition parties (Pheu Thai, Move Forward) and inside the current governing coalition, Thailand’s conservative establishment is slowly building a case to dissolve both PT and MFP.

 

It appears that the progressive agenda of the Move Forward Party is seen as a threat to the existing orthodoxy, and its plans to address the lese majeste law (as well as other party policies like directly-elected governors) are unacceptable to the conservative forces inside the courts and the establishment. This threat has seemingly doubled in recent weeks with MFP polling beyond expectations and drawing huge crowds at rallies around the country.

I would be very surprised if MFP are allowed even a foothold. No way would they be allowed to actually win an election.

I said years ago that at the nxt election a people's revolution may well be on the cards because this maniac general will not give up his power and will keep it by whatever means necessary. If these 'rumors' of dissolution come to pass or he remains in power by his paid off lackeys in the senate and not the people's will then a people's revolution is well on thre cards. Times may very well change very quickly here. If and I say if this happens then I would expect a reaction from Prayut not dissimilar to what happened in Myanmar. There is of course someone else in the mix (I'm not talking Thaksin here) but what will the reaction from there be? This country may be on the verge of something very big. I really hope this will not be the case but sometimes change only happens through force be it peaceful or violent.

Ah the PM and his cronies bringing happiness to the people once more.  If they were to dissolve the parties, it should have been done prior to all of the electioneering going on.  If they do dissolve the parties, it is going to leave many many folks disgruntled as they will become disenfranchised in there voting rights.  Just my thoughts.

They are so stupid when they do this that they don't see it will be the same as what is happening in Myanmar... Good for the country, tourism and economy as they constantly say??? If they don't accept the vote of the public big problems occur...

That would take some stones. And the blowback will be, quite frankly, unimaginable.

It seems pretty unlikely that a group or person in power is going to allow a shift to democracy where that shift means that the people can vote them out of power.  Even if it means something very drastic.

Option 1, you have no idea about Myanmar, option 2 you have no idea about Thailand, option 3 is 1 and 2 combined. Myanmar and Thailand are very different from each other in many ways.

You have me confused, is the criminal fugitive on the ballot? is the criminal fugitive in the running for PM? As usual your talking nonsense.  I understand your dislike for PT but all parties here in Thailand are corrupt in one way or another.

I have just a good chat with a Thai friend. Smart person. I told him about this dissolution rumour. He said good. The people will fight. The people want change. I know this is only one persons opinion but I reckon it's indicative of the majority of the population. His vote is going to MFP. He also said that any dissolution moves will come post election.

Indeed. My daughter 13 is telling her mum not to vote Phue Thai. Vote Orange. Vote 31. My friend I mentioned above is in his late 40's. Same thing. Get rid of the old guard.

unfortunately my wife is a HUGE Prayut fan. this is causing a few problems between mother and son. Politics is a no go area in my house ????

Tis a shame. I remember being told as a kid religion and politics shouldn't be discussed at at the dinner table, parties etc. This is only because of 'don't rock the boat'. Don't ask questions. Don't challenge the percieved norm. Well it's too late now. The world has moved on considerably since those days. The sad or frightening thing is some people haven't.

If both these parties are dissolved I'm not sure what credibility the next government will have with the rest of the world?
