Senators’ Bloc Against Voters’ Consensus Will Have A Price To Pay: Pita

MOVE FORWARD LEADER PITA Limjaroenrat Wednesday (May 17) cautioned those senators who might probably stand in the way of popular consensus manifested in Sunday’s general election will certainly have a price to pay.

 

During an interview online with a CNN correspondent, Pita suggested all 250 senators seriously take into account the consensus shown in the nationwide election by some 25 million voters who have brought the Move Forward a monumental victory as the largest elected party and the first-served opportunity for him to set up a 311 MPs-strong coalition government with himself being righteously bound to be named prime minister.

 

Pita said a voting bloc among the military-appointed senators against the consensus of most people who have gone to the polls on Sunday will not be able to keep him from taking the helm of a coalition government, given such overwhelming popular support.

 

“Those senators will have a price to pay. The cost of going against the 25 million voters’ consensus will be very heavy,” Pita said without elaborating.

seems Thailand has an unconstitutional constitution that was imposed on the people by an unelected military junta and was never endorsed by the people, IMO that makes it invalid

It's a constitution. So it's constitutional. Obviously for Thailand to really "move forward" they will need yet another new constitution.

Obviously we can't / shouldn't become politically active here. But dude this is an English language discussion forum and Thailand just experienced a historically significant national election result. Of course it's OK to discuss that!

There was a referendum on it, therefore it was, in theory, endorsed by the people. 

 

Of course, many had no idea what they were voting for, many were coerced into voting for the referendum and no one was allowed to campaign against the proposed constitution, How many actually read the hundred plus page document that arrived at the door? 

 

I agree, it was forced upon the populace in an underhand way but the people did, in general, have a chance to reject it.

And it was worded in such a way as 1/. Yes i agree to the new constitution 2/. No I do not agree with the old constitution. So the choice was always made for them

The last 9 years have been invalid... but it still happened.

Yes.......we are guests here and our comments on things should in the main be private rather than public, BUT, most of us have wives/partners, and many of us have children here, and it is only correct that we show concern for them and their futures, especially where we see total foolhardiness by those who are supposed to look after the Thai people in general.

Pita just revealed his coming policies in Thai interview - casinos, legalising n taxing prostitution, abolishing lese majestic n legalising more drugs and more LGBTQ rules just like USA (his dream country) seems like destroying everything in the present Thai society .. build back better ????. 

Go see who Pita and his group are …and who you are supporting -  it could be a case of out of the frying pan into the fire …

What happense to senate seats when the senator suddenly becomes unavailable for duty like if they resign their position, have an unfortunate accident, etc?

I am glad he said this. He is absolutely correct. But, the people might need to take change now. These senators need to be declared enemies of the state. A list of their names and photos needs to be circulated. The people need to call them and their children, siblings, and parents out at work, school, at restaurants, and in public. Shame them into submission. Make their lives so uncomfortable they quit a year early. It just might work.

Rediculous comment. The politics of a country affects ALL the people living in said country.

 A coalition consisting of MFP , BJT , Democrats . and Pheu Thai should have enough seats = ( 388 seats )  , to to form a government without the support of the " military ' senators .

After that , another referendum to rewrite the constitution to how it has been before , and get rid of the senators .
