Public advised to protect themselves as COVID-19 cases surge

Thai doctors are sounding the alarm over the steady rise in COVID-19 infections, as they advise the public to protect themselves from the disease as recommended by the Ministry of Public Health.

 

According to Dr. Tares Krassanairawiwong, director-general of the Disease Control Department, 2,632 COVID patients were admitted to hospitals between May 14th and 20th, an average of 376 cases a day and, of these, 64 have died, averaging seven deaths a day. Lung infections were recorded at 401 cases and, of these, 226 of them needed ventilators.

 

He said that 50% of the 64 deaths were people who were not vaccinated at all and 30% had received only two vaccine doses without a booster shot for a long time.

 

He attributed the steady increase in COVID infections to the arrival of the rainy season and the resumption of classes for the new semester.

 

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Nitipat Jiarakul, of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, advised members of the public not to be too obsessed with the formation of the new government, but to focus on protecting themselves from the resurging virus.

I and my wife catched (one more time) the covid in Patttaya 3 weeks ago, it's over today in Pattaya.

I had fever for 2 days, not worse than a bad flue in Europe but worse that my covid in 2020 (fever only 1 day)

 

99,9999% of people wont die, dont think too much :).

and 50% are not what exactly is the vaccines usefulness

Seems there's new covid wave in a country that's providing lots of tourists and up market condo investors.

I would take the bivalente Pfizer or Moderna booster here in Chiang Mai on the same free basis as my previous 3 shots.

Same.

My wife and I caught it 3 weeks ago while in Pattaya.

 

Much worse.

 

We also spent a week in a hotel away from our kids while testing positive.  That cost quite a lot of extra money and time.

 

It may not hospitalize you but it's not like a little cold like the traditional deniers claim it is.

The 50% vaccinated mostly were vaccinated a long time ago.

Nothing like that available around here in Sakhon Nakhon or Udon Thani.

 

I even paid ahead of time for it from Udon Thani Bangkok Hospital.  They refuse to refund my money despite never getting the bivalent vaccines, blaming the government.

Nope. No protection here. I would wear a mask to protect against Bubonic plague. Not covid. Certainly not the recent, weak, pathetic variants. Not afraid of the flu. Fear does not rule my life.

Ka ching!  Every time a syringe plunger is depressed, Pfizer and Moderna's stock price go up a little.  But of course you can trust their corporate scientists and our world's governmental oversight processes to keep us safe.

You're right, if you are healthy and have had at least one vaccine, you like me will probably have a bad cold or flu like symptoms. Mine lasted three days. However, if you have not been vaccinated, and/or have serious health issues, then you are more at risk of getting really sick, hospitalized, and/or die. The choice is ultimately yours.

The latest edition of the virus is also without vaccine no problem at all if you are healthy....maybe more than with vaccine but still just minor.
