Looking for caretaker for old man: Philipina, or Thai lady who speaks some English

Featured Replies

Hi all,
Old man needs a care taker. She must speak some basic English. He is annoyed when a Thai lady doesn't.
That is why he prefers having a Philippine care taker. Can live in, good salary. Only care taking, no relation.
Thanks!

If you want somebody to work for you it would help if you specified:

  • the hours per day
  • the days per week
  • holidays per year
  • salary
  • what you exactly mean by care taking, what needs to be done.

A few more specifics please, such as location of old man, salary range, etc.

Government hospital nurses are compulsorily retired at age 45, presumably some will have some English. IMO a fluent English-speaking carer would be quite expensive.

Advertise.

I don't think you'll get the necessary help in this thread.

At least he gets help in how to create an advertisement which gives the employee some clarity about the job.

- Live in, 24/7, but 1 day off per week. Other holidays in consultation: then need someone to replace.
- She will be working together with a Thai lady.
- The two ladies need to take care his meals, medications (he has some dementia, can't remember when to take what). Shower him, clean after toilet (his hands are trembling, so he has problems doing this himself).
Help him getting dressed. Guide him when he goes to the beach or a restaurant (the Thai lady got a car). Most of the time the ladies will only sit and keep an eye on him, spend time with him relaxing on the beach or other places. He can walk, but needs guidance when, eg, stepping on and off pavements (his sight is not good: glaucoma).
- 25,000 baht a month.

A Filipina is going to need a work permit to legally become a caretaker, which in turn leads to a headache with immigration.

In all honesty, the "old man" should consider pulling up roots and moving to The PI.  Easier immigration visa requirements and access to exactly what the 'old man' is looking for.

Advertise on facebook, Groups: Pattaya Oracle and Pattaya Expats, i see these ads every couple weeks and usually some Thai lady is recommended for the job

Many nursing agencies that supply such helpers. They also have to arrange for a replacement when the regular one goes on holidays.

Be aware they don't come cheap.

Actually price will vary but 25k would be in ballpark.

In all honesty, you seem to have ignored the fact that she would be an addition to an existing Thai carer and that another in Thailand is actually "exactly what he is looking for".
