“Jan. 6 was a tragic day in the life of our nation,” Mr. Pence said. “But thanks to the courage of law enforcement, the violence was quelled, we reconvened the Congress. The very same day, President Trump’s reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol.”

He added: “But the American people deserve to know on that fateful day, President Trump also demanded I choose between him and our Constitution. Now voters will be faced with the same choice. I chose the Constitution, and I always will.”

No other major Republican candidate for president has even mentioned the attack on the Capitol in an announcement speech.

Pence clearly knows which side of history he wants to be on.   I don’t like the man, I don’t like his politics, but on Jan. 6 his life was put in danger for doing nothing more than following

  • Thank for doing your job Mike at least we know he takes his oath seriously I certainly don’t agree with most of his political views but I do believe he’s a good American of courage thanks Mike

  • It shows how low the bar is in the GOP sphere. Pence is admired for just doing his duty and follow the law.

Pence was part of the very thin line between fascism and democracy, for that he deserves recognition.

Only temporarily. He went on to that phony NOT news network and backpedaled his tailfeathers off.

Exactly. We need more basically honest people like that running. However, that whole "mother" thing really creeps me out.

Agreed, but it also shows how close America’s democracy came to collapsing.

I don't like Pence, but at least he's a normal Republican instead of the nut cases they have now.

I agree to a point, you forgot courage,VPPence spent a lot of time with trump he knew full well what a viscous dirt bag he is and trump sent a lynch mob to kill him so no sir you forgot the courage he deserves credit for that!

And still is.

Not sure why he's running. He has zero chance of being nominated. Hasn't he been humiliate enough already?

I agree he won’t get the nomination but perhaps it will make real republicans think about the direction they have been going perhaps it will shake out some of the trump cult acolytes as well

Pence getting in the race can only help Trump.

You can say that about any candidate running against him.

The only way to beat him for the nomination is for them to consolidate with one challenger who is performing well.

The mainstream media says that would be DeSantis. But he's terrible too.

Indeed.

Could be.

Only to the left, most people on the right think he's fine. Certainly better than what we have now.

It collapsed on Nov 22 1963 when they took out an elected president as they did not like his foreign policy history, the nuclear test ban and plans to leave Vietnam. It's been downhill ever since. At the moment the Presidency is little more than a comedy.

Oh no it’s ‘They’ again.

Actually it shows the opposite. The election result was ratified the next day. The inauguration of President Biden took place as scheduled. The threat was almost non-existent.

The rioters were ejected and arrested within hours. The American system is far stronger than many people give credit for.  This just proves it.

It seems he has a bit of a chance if Trump's problem's catch fire, and Desantis falls over, then all the others seem on a similar footing. Maybe running can be quite lucrative too with Pac's and influence peddling and taking your supporters to help some other candidate if you don't get sufficient support. And you might get lucky and be up against Biden in 2024.

A bit like one in a million if that.

OK, "ejected and many arrested". Better? The point stands though. Congress did its job, the new president took office, there was no real danger to any American political institutions.

The insurrectionists at the Capitol where there following Trumps bidding, had they and he achieved the aim of halting the ratification the other parts of Trump’s plan would have come into play, fake slates of electors.

Go ahead, try rewriting the history of these events.

I look forward to the ongoing prosecutions and trials.

Me too. They deserve it. Kind of surprised it has taken this long.
