Popular Post webfact Posted June 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 8, 2023 Move Forward Party leader, 43-year-old Pita Limjaroenrat, whose candidacy for the position of PM has the support of an eight-party coalition representing over 75% of the electorate and 62% of the provisionally announced seats in the House of Representatives, sounded less confident this week about the issue of his alleged shares in a defunct media company even as he tried to put it behind him. It came alongside a growing campaign from conservative forces in Thailand questioning the essence of the May 14th General Election and warning of the dangers of a Move Forward Party-led government taking power while political uncertainty is beginning to erode business confidence. Weeks after the May 14th election a decisive result has been thrown into question with ‘roadblocks’ being erected in front of Mr Pita Limjaroenrat’s road to the Prime Minister’s office amid a sharp upsurge in dangerous and divisive political rhetoric coming from conservative factions which aim to spread fear including serious accusations that the election was interfered with by western powers with one official even indirectly comparing the Move Forward Party to Germany’s National Socialist Party in 1933. There is striking evidence that amid a growing political vacuum created by political uncertainty, conservative forces in Thailand are mounting a rearguard action against the result of the May 14th General Election with a spike in online misinformation stoking fear. This is happening simultaneously with efforts by an eight-party coalition trying to form a new government while facing a minefield created by the kingdom’s election laws. The country’s complicated and onerous legal provisions have seen it still awaiting confirmation of the election results with a growing threat being presented to the prospect of Mr Pita Limjaroenrat, the charismatic young leader of the Move Forward Party, taking on the mantle of Thailand’s 30th Prime Minister in August. A top business leader on Thursday warned that the threat of a delay in forming a new government expected in August and the rising prospect of political instability poses a twin threat to the Thai economy which is struggling to overcome a slump in exports this year. by Joseph O' Connor Full story: https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/06/08/dangerous-political-flux-after-election-conservative-forces-online-misinformation/ -- © Copyright Thai Examiner 2023-06-09 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. I just hope the Khama gods respond in kind when they all turn up their toes. It’s the only chance there will be of bringing them to justice because there will be no justice on offer for these carbuncles under the current regime. 9 1 3 7
bendejo Posted June 8, 2023 Posted June 8, 2023 If Thaksin returns and allies with MFP he'll use his political savvy to make sausages out of Pita. On the other hand he's been away for 14 years, maybe the bulk of his connections are no more. 2 hours ago, webfact said: . . . amid a sharp upsurge in dangerous and divisive political rhetoric coming from conservative factions which aim to spread fear including serious accusations that the election was interfered with by western powers with one official even indirectly comparing the Move Forward Party to Germany’s National Socialist Party in 1933. If not for the words "Move Forward Party" in that quote it sounds like something from the US. (And some would call the last few words of the quote as a positive.)

Popular Post soalbundy Posted June 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 8, 2023 Unfortunate as it is, rules are rules, fact is Pita does have shares in a media company. What should the EC do, say OK, for Pita we will turn a blind eye? In past cases at least a pretense at adhering to the rules was upheld, shares transferred to the maid and butler etc. The fair course would be to ban Pita but not the party, let Pita's deputy take over, if only in name, everything can be sorted after MFP has the power. They should, at this juncture, stop waving a red flag to the establishment bull by playing to the crowd with populist statements, this is obviously going to get a counter reaction from the powers that be causing a downward spiral until violence is reached. 2 1 4 5

Here we have it black on white ... Conservative forces means the old ' political elite ' . The majority of the thai people voted for political change , they do not care . It is like a network of filth everywhere in top positions , they all know each other , Judges , Politicians , Senators , Generals , the old ruling ' Elite ' . Democracy ? OK , but only if the outcome of ' Democratic ' elections suits them well ... If not , they are well prepared for this case , we will see judiciary procedures coming up ' en masse ' just to bend the election results into something that suits them ... It is only a " pseudo democracy " here ( to fit in well with the perception of a non totalitarian state ) , but in reality this is just what it is . 4 2 1 5

Indeed it is and any normal minded person would accept that the rules had effectively not been broken but I fear that a court of law would judge according to the letter of the law and not its spirit. 2 1

The EC already said OK (essentially) since Pita has been an MP for 4 yrs and he brought this issue to the EC back when he started. The other blatant lies stating he said something he hasn't are just lies. One petitioner is being sued already and another will happen in the next day or so. Popular Post delgarcon Posted June 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 9, 2023 I'm quite happy with the political turmoil here, long may it continue. The value of my pension is increasing with the weakness of the Baht and after spending 11 years here, I can't imagine anyone being able to bring significant change. I can't be specific when I mention corruption, but as we all know it's widespread and I can't mention names of hospitals that cheat us when we need help, but we know who they are. We read every day about accidents and deaths on the roads, which are greeted with nothing but apathy from the powers that be. Tourists are encouraged to rent a motorbike, which they may or may not have ever driven back home and for which they may or may not have a licence and the only time I ever see a policeman here in Koh Phangan is when a nice cool day encourages them to go out and earn a few baht catching motorcyclists not wearing crash helmets. How fast or erratically they're driving and how many are killed or seriously injured is not an issue, on the contrary, it's more revenue for the hospitals. Anyway, I don't give a flying **** about the outcome of the election and long may sterling's revival continue. 1 1 3 1

Too closed ties to the military. I am not so sure. I think that one of the things that happened when the "new order" was established was that a deal was struck with the regime which essentially limited power in exchange for behaviour being tolerated and access to wealth. One of the side effects of this was a major split within the armed forces, both within the Army ( long riven by factions) and between the Army and Air Force.
