Yes it is a common product, but Thais prefer soy or palm oil..

With one exception, we make our own sausages, and really too easy.

 

Aside from that 1 spicy sausage, only 'processed' food we don't make, is hotdogs or spicy bologna, as simply too difficult.  Really don't eat that much of either.

 

An occasional double pork burger rom 7-11.

 

Retired, and more time than we know what to do with, so plenty of time to source & make ourselves.

 

Any processed foods we do eat, read the ingredients and opt for the better version.

"Crab Stick" has been made same process in many places in tworld since decades. It is other  foods that have been plasticised to  look for. In French fries has no word in to say is only potato. Chicken/fish nuggets? You want to know real?

Never ate sealife ever. Lovely creatures living, but smell abhorrent dead...cooked or not. Total gagfest whenever anyone or any place cooks it. Airlines should ban it as the stink is unbearable. ????

Fresh fish shouldn't smell 'fishy' ... avoid if it does.

 

I guess you don't live in TH, as fish sauce is used quite often.

Som tum Thai - tasty, never smells fishy, although I add my own cayenne to it.

 

There's more than 1 variation of Som tum.

555...33 years vegan and closing in on 30 years in Thailand. Also grew up in Florida. Was definitely an outlier among family and friends at meal time, as they all loved sealife and I never touched it. To each their own. 

 

Fresh or not...it always smells foul to me. NO exceptions.

One reason I loved FL & Keys as my playground, fresh seafood.  Have a dive buddy, same thinking, all fish smells. 

 

All out for dinner, and I ordered a nice grilled blackened tuna and he was amazed it didn't smell like a can of tuna.

 

Still wouldn't sample it though ... ????  Damn it as tasty

In the '90s I went back to school and got to dead-head on Long Beach cattle boat once a week, all I ate was fresh fish...

 

Back in the '60s, anytime we caught a bunch of Bonita my mom would can it. The only tuna I ate until I left home came from a Mason jar...
