good question - im forever trying to improve myself, no drink, cigs, weed and such and for the most part , im fine. But then after a  couple of days, im back on the slippery slope. Like there's an inner voice that i cant refuse.

angel on one side v the Devil on the other.

Me too. I stop drinking 3 weeks. No ice cream then I think whats left? Not much to have fun with. TV is boring. I read some books but a plain life is what monks do and they go off the rails even with training.

Or you can spend your retirement in Thailand 24 hrs a day on a public discussion board.

Definitely not for me.

Who does that?

Or can you live a plain life and be happy?

Easily & we do.

Then again wife & I enjoy our health to perform athletically in our hobbies

We started years ago to tighten & although we thought we were fine some tests in later years said more could be done. That is exactly what we did.

But truthfully it is not giving up it is realizing what works well for your body & once implemented the changes/rewards are so great you really miss nothing...long for nothing from the past

Coffee

Agreed.

This is a game I used to play with my students- make a list of 3 things and choose the one that you could never live without. For example;

Cookies

Ice Cream

Cake

or

Pizza

Burgers

Pasta

I agree. Sometimes my hand shakes so much I can hardly get a spoonful of soup from bowl to mouth. Something like this comes in handy:

I don’t do any of those things. Not that I cannot or refuse to do them ever. It’s just that they aren’t that important. You think life without them is “plain”?

Yes

I have no intention of giving up golf and sex. IMO golf is better, less expensive and I can play for longer.

Do you mean you think golf is better than sex.

I know they are both about getting your balls out and into a hole! 555

You need to keep on working on yourself. This means you physically, mental and spiritual health as well as your relationships.

So just water, salt and meditation plus basic food.

Does life get boring if you give up things like chocolate, ice cream and alcohol?

Or can you live a plain life and be happy?

Try it and see! ????

Vices needed?

Coffee

Good steak

Red wine

Of the three, which would be the hardest to give up....

Can you leave these alone and list 3 more to choose from?
