16th retirement extension Non-O but Thai wife has spent my 800k.

I'm up for my 16th annual extension of my Non-O based on retirement within a couple of weeks. Shock! Horror! My Thai wife, we've been married 26 years, yesterday told me she has spent my 800k keeping her restaurant going. What can I do? I'm 75, on UK passport.

Go see an agent, it will cost you 12,500 per year, maybe more if you haven't got a Bangkok Bank account. If you're in Pattaya i can recommend one, i think they can help people outside of Pattaya also.

  • IMHO if this is the first and only time something like this has happened I would suggest that you do your best to forgive and support your wife, but not forget what has happened between you.

  • how did she get access to your bank account?

I doubt you can force her to return your money, just divorce the thief and move on.

We live in small village, 200 miles north of Bangkok. Bank is SCB. I can't sack the wife as she owns the house we live in that we built 28 years ago & besides she's been 100% until this. The Covids killed so many businesses here & money is scarce now in the village. I'll travel to the Pattaya agent if I can get this sorted.

Agent ... or take the hint & start packing.

You're no longer become any priority to her to keep around.  You may want to check your chanote on any land you/she owns, to see if she borrowed against it.

Contact Maneerat, they probably have Line if it's easier than calling. Probably also on Facebook

800k is a lot to blow isn't it? hopefully it's not one of these romance scams you hear about, or gambling addiction, worth investigating

how did she get access to your bank account?

  • Popular Post

At least you know now, the bank account has to be ONLY in your name.

You could have saved 400 kbaht, having a non o married visum, ok maybe next time.

Or start with doing so now, then you "only" need 400 kbaht.

Can happen, looks like with many couples, had college who was married and wife didnt pay bills anymore for some reason for long time. He only knew then when the bailiff was at the door. He was also married long time with 4 daughters.

I also learned, no one will have ever acces to "my" bank accounts. Including wife.

My wife had my ATM card- after nearly 30 years together I had no reason not to trust her. I actually think she's covering for her daughter. Big mistake having your 800k in an ATM accessable account.

Yeah, that and it's also a good idea to set up SMS notifications for account activity. With the usual ATM limits, she couldn't have drained the account in a single day, and at least you would have known right away.

I don't have a wife but I've always had SMS notifications. You just never know, bad things can and do happen, so it's best to be alert.

There is no way in this world I would ever let my wife know my pin num. Unless on my death bed.

My mate who was disabled and had lost the use of his hands, got his money taken by her, he only got sms over 5k withdraw, the bitch was so crafty she still managed to drain all of his money.   ( RIP Jeff)

Also do your best to ignore the lip flapping posters who suggest that you dump your wife as they (and I) have no idea of your family circumstances. Most of them are losers anyway. They are like little annoying yapping puppies who know no better.

If you can find an agent perhaps you could suggest to your wife that she tries to help you out with the agents fees, if she can.

I have no idea how she managed to access your money as AFAIR it is supposed to be in an account in your name only, but that is water under the bridge.

You and your wife alone will have to deal with it and try to keep it that way.

One of the worst things that you can do is to open up on TVF where there are many posters who love to read stories like this as they feel it proves their point about Thai women.

One last thought for you, there is a possibility that you can change your retirement extension to a marriage extension which only needs 400,000 baht or a marriage extension based on income which only requires that you have a provable income of 40,000 baht per month or 80,000 if you earn enough to keep your retirement extension going.

I wish you the best of luck and I truly hope things work out for you.

Best regards

Believe you can obtain a 60 day extension to visit Thai wife if you may be able to get 400k into your account for marriage extension.

Multi entry non O visas are still available from Savannakhet Royal Thai Consulate and only require exit every 90 days until you can obtain 400k marriage extension.  You should have note from wife asking that such a visa be issued along with marriage proof.

1. Apply for a 60 day extension to visit wife.

2. Deposit 400k into your bank account.

3. Organize the docs required for proof of marriage etc.

4. Obtain the extension based on marriage.

You can use the funds once the extension is approved.

Are you the OP?

What I offered, if you had bothered to read my post fully, was advice that did not include an agent.

You cannot use a joint account for Immigration extension purposes. It must be in your name only.

The 800,000 Baht should havew been kept in a seperate bank account, and well out of her reach.

If you don't like my posts then either don't read them or put me on your ignore list.

I was responding to the OP and not you.

Correct, but in many cases men seem happy to have their wives have full access or even just have everything in the wife's name, bonkers

Someone put a SAD emoji on this reply which is 100% correct. (Not the SAD emoji, that's silly)

Why did the OP not get a message from his bank EVERY time a withdrawal is made, as I do. And one every morning at 8am to say what my balances are. Or even simply log on to his bank each day to see whether or not, wife or anyone else, has been tapping into his retirement fund.

Maybe she wants you kicked out! If my partner did anything like that, she knows she would be out on her a*se, house in her name or not. Or maybe I would be the one to 4...off and leave her with a house AND NO INCOME for her son's and grandson's  school, or anything to eat.

If the account and ATM card is in your name only—that’s illegal for her to draw down that account.

Incidentally, you could have the makings for a great novel.

Dr Jack54 & Lopburi3.

Thank you for explicit advice.

I shall apply for a 60 day extension to visit wife.

Then go for extension based on marriage.

Not correct. I had a joint account with my wife for my extensions based on retirement a few times. The 800k must be minimum 1.6M.

Do you realise how silly your last paragraph is? The account for Immigration Extensions must be SOLE ACCOUNT.

OK, Bht 1.6M if wife is also on an extension. Did you actually have 1.6M in the account? And if so, did she leave 800k for your Extension. All seems a bit iffy to me.

This really shows what a trusting relationship you have/had.
