Maybe the warehouse was there first and the houses came afterwards? (Because of the jobs.) We have no way of knowing. ????

  • Very sad. An acquaintance of my gf's best friend died in the explosion as well. Hoping the missing people are located safe and sound.

Er... no... obviously not!

Reminds me of the Thai NDT company that keeps radioactive sources in their office in a Bangkok Housing estate.

What could possibly go wrong?

Very sad. An acquaintance of my gf's best friend died in the explosion as well.

Hoping the missing people are located safe and sound.

I can't help but suspecting this may have something to do with events of years past (like Tak Bai) and the possibility that the former PM behind it will be returning to LOS.

Seems they were welding in the factory, not the brightest fireworks in the box! ????

It hits you when its someone close to home. I'm with you, thoughts for the missing and those that have lost loved ones including parents, unfortunately the death toll will no doubt rise quite a lot yet.

Deaths in fireworks explosion climb to 12 with 10 survivors still in hospital

image.jpeg

The death toll in the fireworks warehouse explosion and fire, in Su-ngai Kolok district of Thailand’s southernmost province of Narathiwat, increased to 12 today (Sunday). Ten of the survivors are still in hospital, while 98 others have been discharged, according to Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong, the permanent secretary of public health.

Of the 10 still in hospital, six are female, two male and two are children. They have injuries to their faces, heads and bodies.

Dr. Opart said that he has ordered medical staff from 13 districts to be sent to Su-ngai Kolok district hospital to provide psychiatric support to people traumatised by the incident and others who may develop respiratory and digestive symptoms or irritations of the skin and eyes, as a result of exposure to chemicals released in the explosion and subsequent fire.

Explosion at firework warehouse possibly caused by welding sparks

image.jpeg

The explosion at a warehouse storing fireworks, in Sungai-Kolok district of Narathiwat province yesterday (Saturday), was probably caused by sparks from welding, as a mechanic was trying to fix a shelf inside the building, according to the Narathiwat governor, Sanan Pongaksorn.

The governor said that the priority now is to survey the damage in the neighbourhood, to see exactly how many households and how many people have been harmed. Most of the injured have already been released from hospital, with nine staying overnight and one in a critical condition.

The governor said there are no other firework warehouses in the district of which officials are aware and the one where the accident occurred had not yet been authorized for use as a warehouse as it was newly built.

Storing explosives in a residential area!!!!

I hope that those responsible face at least manslaughter charges and a long time in prison.

This "conspiracy theory" sounds a bit, quite a bit, far fetched to me.

So I guess that the residents were there first.

Welding was ok!

Seems hard6cto know how many are missing. I doubt there is insurance if it wasn't permitted yet    sad.  Who will rebuild all those structures fone and the damaged ones.

Will insurance pay out for a company that (apparently) allowed welding to be done by stored explosives!??? That wouldn't be the brightest business model.

There are no safety standards in Thailand -- safety health and Environment (SHE) all does not exists.

It is too costly to maintain to maintain the SHE standards and the owners don't care. So we all have to watch the surrounding areas of our houses in Thailand.

This is the main reason for all the China owned factories to shift to Chiang Mai in the recent years after the Chinese authorities started to clamp down on factory standards. The shift of factories contributed to the pollution in Chiang Mai. The recent respite from pollution is probably because of the economic situation of China and factories production are down due to the bad world economies.

it doesn't matter, the authorities should never have allowed one or the other, just think about it, but then, as usual, this is Thailand... no safety measure at all, money comes first, followed quickly by corruption.
