Hope to see him involved in getting tourism and immigration back to where it was. Lets see.  A big mess of who wants to be the leaders.  Why cant they have written tests to see who is the most capable.  General knowledge.  Science.  1pc of zero. That kind of thing.  Factual stuff.  Smartest gets the lollies. Too many low smartness people around in positions they dont belong. Anyway,  putting aside any evil he has done,  the cruel feeling of being kept away from your home is over for Thaksin. Good luck friend.

Also the observed condition in participatory democracy … “counting heads, not is what is in those heads”. A dilemma.

Ex-PM Yingluck says she respects Thaksin’s decision to return to Thailand

Exiled former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra said she respects the decision of her elder brother Thaksin to return to Thailand today (Tuesday) and wished him luck and a safe return.

This message was posted in Yingluck’s Facebook page, together with a clip showing her hugging Thaksin as she sawhim off for his flight to Thailand after 17 years, except for a brief visit to Thailand in 2008, of living in self-imposed exile abroad.

In her message, Yingluck said she understood that Thaksin felt lonely, sad and homesick throughout his exile, adding that she believes Thaksin must have thought for a long time before making the decision to return today.

She said she hopes the exiled former prime minister’s return will be smooth and safe and reminded him to look after his health.  She also asked Thaksin not to worry about her, saying that she is strong enough to take care of herself after spending six years abroad.

According to my Thai partner, he arrived wearing a $1,200,000 watch.

He/she could actually see the make and model of his watch from the TV pictures?

Never head that before...  apparently true!

Of course they were already massively wealthy and it looks to me like a publicity stunt.

Look a few posts up from here and you can see the pics for yourself. Pretty hilarious and typical of a politician. Not much to be skeptical of IMO....

As a Thai Chinese I can confirm this.   It's not xenophobia though, it's just preference.   Kind of like not wanting mustard on one's burger.   We don't hate or fear the mustard.   ????

Having a dislike of mustard would be completely different though, right? Hmmm. I perceive and the perception is given off as Xenophobia.

No, it's a Shakespearean tragedy dressed out (typically) with comic interludes. There has to be 5 acts.

The hidden lead character is truly Orwellian from my perspective.

Do you include Pitha in your broad stroke of the brush?

He also has chinese ancestry.

There are some people who exemplify their Chineseness with the control obsession, Xi Jin Ping being the exemplar. Thaksin at the end of his time in power was displaying this unfortunate tendency.

Keen-eyed netizens noticed the watch Thaksin is wearing in one of the photos. X (Twitter) user and political analyst M.L. Nattakorn Devakula wrote “If I am not wrong, the watch Thaksin is wearing is Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime”.

Patek Philippe watches are renowned some of the most expensive in the world. If M.L. Nattakorn is correct, prices of the series he mentioned start at about Bt110 million.

When Thaksin landed at a Don Muang VIP airport, however, online detectives went to work again, noticing that the watch Thaksin was now wearing, when he briefly greeted his supporters, was not the same one as in the photo taken on the aircraft.

Instead, it was identified as an Omega X Swatch, the price of which is about Bt8,700.

Yep, that's pretty typical of what wealthy corruption can buy.

As for Thaksin's well-preserved appearance, maybe he dyes his hair, like the Chinese bosses do.

And by about 20 minutes after landing he is sitting in one of his penthouses in Bangkok what a joke these people are

Please show on Google Maps where this Penthouse is, because, from what I saw on TV, the cavalcade was going towards the Monkey House, as reported on most News channels.

If that was me as a UK citizen I would never feel homesick for the UK in order to face prison especially considering that he's not skint, I would gladly appreciate my sunsets with a wonderful smile in my own freedom sort of way and be quite happy etc etc.

UPDATE:

8 years jail sentence for Thaksin

I doubt he'll spend 8 hours in a prison cell,   let alone 8 years ... TIT .. where money talks and losers walk.

he'll be put up in some luxurious cosy condo somewhere .... to serve out his time.

I thought he was an international fugitive.  He was escorted out of the jet and all smiles.  Does he get booked, face a judge or have to post bail?  From what I saw it looked rather low key and anticlimactic?  Is he really going to jail/prison?
